Thompson Clinches Huge 4-3 Win in ACC Tournament First Round

CARY, N.C. –  The Clemson women’s tennis team (15-11, 3-10 ACC) put it all out there and battled from the first point against Virginia Tech (10-14, 1-12 ACC) to capture a huge 4-3 win in the first round of the ACC Tournament.  The Hokies got off to a quick start in doubles, registering their first win on Court 1 by a score of 6-2. Shortly after, Jenna Thompson and Leigh Van Zyl got the Tigers back on track as they defeated Virginia Tech’s Cartledge and Richtrova, 6-2. It came down to Court 2 where the Hokies won 6-2 to clinch the doubles point. Eleni Louka looked solid from the first serve for the Tigers, beating No. 49 Uslu 6-2, 6-1 to tie things up at one a piece. No. 113 Dani Medvedeva continued her winning ways as she pushed the Tigers to a 2-1 lead after winning 6-1, 6-4. The Hokies brought the score to 2-2 shortly after with a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court 5. Tigers Drop Regular Season Finale

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 37 Clemson women’s tennis team (15-11, 3-10 ACC) fell on Senior Day in its regular season finale to No. 33 Florida State by a final score of 4-1. The Tigers were unable to win the doubles point and despite their attempts to mount a comeback, the Seminoles managed to put the match away.  Prior to the match, seniors Eleni Louka and Lana Sipek were honored for their contributions to the program. They were joined by former Tigers Laura Marti and Tate Schroeder, as well as Clemson’s all-time winningest head coach in Nancy Harris.  “I want to say a special thank you to Eleni and Lana for always bringing the best version of themselves and representing Clemson with pride,” said Head Coach Amy Sargeant on her two seniors. After Florida State won the doubles point, the Seminoles secured the next two singles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead. No. 13 Miami Defeats No. 37 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 37 Clemson women’s tennis team (15-10, 3-9 ACC) fell at home on Friday to No. 13 Miami by a score of 7-0. The Tigers came within just a few points of securing the doubles point and were unable to rally for enough singles wins to claim victory. It was the Tigers’ first 7-0 loss of the season.  Dani Medvedeva and Cristina Mayorova won their doubles match on Court 2, leaving the result on Court 1 to decide the doubles point. Despite grabbing a 5-4 lead, the Tigers dropped the match 7-5 and entered singles play down 1-0.  Miami won the singles matches on Courts 5, 3 and 1 to secure the victory with a 4-0 lead, but the remaining matches would be played out. Alexandra Anttila dropped her first match of the season to fall to 6-1 by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 0-6.
