WTEN: Tigers Drop ACC Quarterfinals Match to No. 13 NC State

CARY, N.C. - The 12th-seeded Clemson Women’s Tennis team (13-13) ended their ACC Championship tournament run on Friday as they lost 4-0 against fourth-seeded and 12th-ranked  NC State (20-7). The match began outdoors at Cary Tennis Park, but was moved to Duke’s indoor courts midway through singles due to weather. The Tigers were playing for a third straight day after back-to-back wins against Boston College and Georgia Tech, earning a berth in the ACC Quarterfinals for the first time since the 2017 season. The Tigers’ win over Georgia Tech also marked their first win over a top-five seed at the ACC since 2008.“It’s always tough to finish a tournament with a loss,” Head Coach Boomer Saia said. “This group found a peak in this tournament and played extremely hard for the last three days. CARY, N.C. – Leigh Van Zyl fought her way out of a 4-1 deficit in the third set to defeat Mahak Jain, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, and seal Clemson Women’s Tennis’s 4-3 victory over fifth-seeded and 22nd-ranked Georgia Tech in the Second Round of the ACC Championship.
