No. 32 Clemson Falls to No. 22 Georgia Tech

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 32 Clemson women’s tennis team (15-9, 3-8 ACC) dropped a close battle to No. 22 Georgia Tech on Saturday at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The Tigers needed to take multiple third sets in order to win the match and couldn’t quite do so to complete the upset.  Clemson came out strong to start the day, as the doubles pair of Eleni Louka and Sophia Hatton took down the No. 69 tandem in the country, 6-3. Dani Medvedeva and Cristina Mayorova earned Clemson the doubles point with a 7-5 win over the No. 63 tandem, and Jenna Thompson and Leigh Van Zyl earned a 7-6 (7-5) win to close out the doubles sweep. Alexandra Anttila kept the ball rolling in singles, earning a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory to advance to 6-0 on the season. Georgia Tech won the next three matches to take a 3-2 lead, leaving the game up to Louka’s and Hatton’s third sets. Clemson Falls Just Short at No. 12 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 30 Clemson women’s tennis team dropped a tough match to No. 12 Virginia 4-2 on the road on Sunday. The Tigers dropped the doubles point and were unable to get the early singles wins needed to extend the match and pull off a comeback, but they did grab two ranked singles wins.  “Team 48 is continuing to prove they can compete with the best in the country,” said Head Coach Amy Sargeant. “We have the biggest hearts and relentless fight, and If we can be a little more stingy, we can be a top-15 program.”  The Cavaliers took the doubles point and won the first three singles matches to clinch the victory, but the remaining matches on Courts 2 and 3 were played out. Jenna Thompson’s opponent retired on Court 4, earning the Clemson junior a victory.  Cristina Mayorova defeated the No. 43 player in the nation in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. TIgers Earn 4-3 Ranked Road Win Over Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va.  The No. 30 Clemson women's tennis team won a hard fought battle against No. 74 Virginia Tech on Friday by a score of 4-3. The Tigers (15-7, 3-6 ACC) and Hokies were locked at 3-3 before Cristina Mayorova won her three-set match on Court 2 to clinch the victory for Clemson. The Tigers began the match strong, as both team took a doubles match before Cristina Mayorova and Dani Medvedeva earned the doubles point for Clemson with a 7-5 win on Court 2. Virginia Tech evened the score with a win on Court 4 before Sophia Hatton and Leigh Van Zyl both earned wins to put Clemson up 3-1. With their backs against the wall, the Hokies won the next two matches to tie the score at 3-3 and leave the match up to a decisive third set on Court 2. Mayorova went into the third set tied 6-7, 6-4, but quickly took control when it mattered most, winning three straight games.
