Celebrating two Masses at parishes in Monroe and a formal wedding-like reception filled the first full day of festivities Sunday for newly ordained Father Zaid Chabaan.
Father Zaid, as he is called, was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Allen Vigneron at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit Saturday. Father Zaid, who served as a transitional deacon at both St. Mary and St. John Catholic Churches this past year, celebrated his first Masses at both parishes on the Feast of Pentecost Sunday along with about 10 priests from the archdiocese, priests from the Monroe parishes and seminarians studying to be priests.
Father Derik Peterman, associate pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington Hills, gave the sermon at the first Mass held at St. John’s. Bedford Public Schools, like other school districts, purchases paper literally by the truckload. Each load is 840 cases. Administrators are finding they are making these purchases less frequently.
Monroe Public Schools goes remote due to COVID spike
Area school districts continue to monitor pandemic, positivity rates
Monroe County’s largest school district has made the decision to briefly convert to all-remote learning after its students return from spring break.
Monroe Public Schools announced students at all of its campuses will switch to online learning April 12-16 due to concerns surrounding rising instances of COVID-19 within its community and the broader county.
The district’s regularly scheduled spring break begins today and ends April 9. Students were originally set to return to in-person learning April 12. That return has been delayed until April 19.
