DeSpain Clinches Victory for Clemson Over James Madison

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (10-9, 2-7 ACC) came out on top of a nailbiter over James Madison (8-10, 0-0 CAA) by a final score of 4-3. Ali DeSpain fought back from a first set defeat to clinch the match for the Tigers on Court 4 with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory. DeSpain and Samantha Buyckx won their doubles match to advance to 8-3 as a pair, James Madison quickly put pressure on the Tigers by securing the doubles point. Buyckx continued her scorching season by leveling the score at one apiece with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 5. She improved to 12-2 in the spring and 6-0 from Court 5.  Cristina Mayorova gave the Tigers the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1, her second win in as many days. Jenna Thompson put Clemson up 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Mayorova Defeats Ranked Opponent in Tigers' 5-2 Loss to No. 21 Wake Forest – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

Clemson, SC – Sophomore Cristina Mayorova displayed an amazing performance with a ranked win over #52 Carolyn Campana, but the No. 62 Clemson Women’s Tennis team (8-7, 2-5 ACC) fell to No. 21 Wake Forest (10-6, 2-3 ACC) by a score of 5-2. The Demon Deacons got off to a quick start, taking the first win on Court 1, 6-1. The duo of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain responded with their own 6-2 victory on court 2. With a tied decision, Eleni Louka and Lana Sipek fought a close match to ultimately lose the set 4-6 giving Wake Forest the doubles point. Wake Forest maintained control of the match early in singles play, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage. But it was Mayorova who made a big impact with her commanding 6-2, 7-5 victory on court 1 against No.52 Carolyn Campana to give the Tigers their first point of the match. Tigers Take Down Chanticleers to Advance to 5-0

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (5-0) dismantled the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (0-2) on Friday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The Tigers took the doubles point and never relinquished control of the match, ultimately earning the victory and remaining undefeated headed into the team’s first road trip on Sunday.  Cristina Mayorova and Dani Medvedeva won their doubles match 6-3, and just moments later Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain came out on the positive end of a long rally on Court 3 that concluded with a backhanded Buyckx winner down the right side of the court, giving Clemson the doubles point.  Jenna Thompson made quick work on Court 4, winning her matchup 6-0, 6-2 and putting the Tigers up 2-0. Tigers Sweep Doubleheader with Western Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson women’s tennis swept its doubleheader with Western Carolina (1-2) on Saturday, winning each match by a score of 6-1. The Tigers (3-0) advanced to their fourth 3-0 start to the season in the last five years.  In the first match, the Tigers handled Western Carolina with ease, securing the doubles point and winning all but one singles match, each Clemson victory coming in straight sets.  Samantha Buyckx and Sophia Hatton won their doubles match from Court 3 in both matches, but it was the Catamounts who took the doubles point in the back half of the double header. Clemson responded however, as four different Tigers won their singles match in straight sets to ultimately clinch the sweep on the day. Lana Sipek picked up the first point for the Tigers with a strong 6-2, 6-0 win on Court 5. Tigers Open Season with 6-1 Win Over Presbyterian

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team opened its season on Wednesday afternoon with a convincing 6-1 victory over Presbyterian. The Tigers earned the doubles point quickly and won five of the six singles points to solidify the victory.  Clemson clinched the doubles point quickly and convincingly, as Samantha Buyckx and Sophia Hatton took care of business on Court 3 by a score of 6-3, while Ali DeSpain and Jenna Thompson finished their match 6-2 just moments later on Court 2.  In singles play, the Tigers’ top players put on outstanding performances, as Jenna Thompson put her opponent away on Court 2, 6-0, 6-2 while Daniella Medvedeva also won 6-2, 6-0 on Court 1, which ultimately clinched the match for the Tigers.
