Tigers Fall to VCU Saturday

LYNCHBURG, VA. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (7-2) came up short on Saturday afternoon to VCU (6-1) 4-0 at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Complex.  The Tigers got off to a quick start in doubles, as Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith went two for two from Court 2 this weekend, earning a 6-2 victory. The Rams quickly flipped the script, registering two wins on Courts 3 and 1 for the doubles point, giving the Tigers an opportunity to battle in singles play.  The Rams took hold of the momentum from singles and won the first two singles matches on Court 6 and 2 by a score of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4. Tigers Take Down Nebraska, Earn Six Straight at Duckworth

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (6-0) competed well and earned a gritty 4-0 victory over Nebraska (2-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.  “I was really happy with the way the boys competed and brought really good energy all day,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “The tennis was a bit up and down at times, but they responded well to the dips. They were resilient and played with passion which was fantastic to see. I am so darn proud of this team and super excited for the South Carolina match Friday night here at home. Can’t wait to get back on court Tuesday. Go Tigers! The Tigers battled in doubles play for over an hour, dropping the first match on Court 3 6-3, but Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker quickly reversed the momentum in the Tiger’s favor by securing a victory on Court 1 by a score of 6-3. Tigers Top South Alabama Friday Afternoon

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (5-0) continued to roll at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility, defeating South Alabama (3-1) 5-2 With the win, the Tigers are off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2017.  QUOTE:  The Tigers earned the first singles win of the day as Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith dominated the No. 2 South Alabama pair, 6-1 to gain some momentum. The Jaguars were able to notched things up at one a piece on Court 1 until Trey Stinchcomb and Matt Pitts were able to give Clemson the doubles point. The serving of Stinchcomb proved to be the difference in the win. Plans Gonzalez and Stinchcomb continued their impressive play early in the season, making quick work of their Jaguar opponents, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3 on Courts 2 and 5.  The remaining four singles matches all went to three sets. Spencer Whitaker and M. Pitts battled on Courts 4 and 3 but fell 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, respectively. Redshirt freshman Nini Dica was vital to the win ....

Tigers Sweep Duckworth Classic Doubleheader

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team opened the 2023 season strong, taking down Furman and Wofford in commanding fashion. The Tigers swept Furman 7-0 and handled business against the Terriers, winning the match by a score of 6-1.  The day was highlighted by several doubles victories and the first dual match wins for Nini Dica, who was 2-0 in singles play in his first matches returning from injury. “It was a great day for the team and to start off the season with two dominating wins,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “The boys brought good energy and focus to both matches and competed well throughout the day.  I am happy for Nini Dica to get his first two wins as a Clemson Tiger after sitting out the past two seasons with two ACL tears.  He has worked so hard to get back on court and we’re super excited to see him healthy.  Really proud of the team and excited to get back to work next week and prepare for a tough ETSU team next Saturday.” The Tigers started hot ....
