Virginia Tech Tops Clemson Sunday Afternoon

BLACKSBURG, VA. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (10-14, 1-11 ACC) dropped a 4-0 match to Virginia Tech (9-15, 3-9 ACC) on Sunday afternoon. Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Ryuhei Azuma looked solid from the first serve in doubles play. The Clemson pair and the No. 20 Hokie team in Chrysostom/Fishback were neck and neck for the whole match, but after two wins on Courts 2 and 3 for Virginia Tech, the match went unfinished, and the Hokies registered the doubles point.  The Hokies earned a quick win on Court 6 to extend their lead to 2-0 right before they won another match on Court 5 to give them a 3-0 advantage. Matt Pitts battled on Court 4 to keep the Tigers in it but ultimately dropped the match, as Virginia Tech clinched a 4-0 win. Up next, the Tigers await their seeding as they will head to Cary, N.C. for ACC Championships next week. Tigers Fight, Fall to Louisville on Senior Day

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (10-12, 1-9 ACC) put up a fight against Louisville (14-9, 5-6 ACC) and would see two ranked singles wins on Sunday afternoon but were unable to secure the win, dropping the match, 4-2. Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker played efficient tennis on Court 1, winning in 6-3 fashion but the Tigers were unable to register victories on Courts 2 and 3, narrowly dropping the doubles point. The Cardinals extended their lead in singles play as Louisville’s Salle recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 3. Azuma continued to impress this afternoon, defeating No. 72 Rodrigues, 6-4, 6-1 for a solid ranked win. Louisville would counter with another win of their own on Court 6 before Plans Gonzalez registered his highest ranked win of the season, dominating against No. 26 Donnet, 7-5, 6-2 to bring the score to 3-2. Trey Stinchcomb would fight on Court 5 but would eventually fall 7-5, 6-3 for a 4-2 Louisville win. The match on Court 4 would go unfinished. Up

Tigers Tame Flames Friday Night

Tigers Make it Four Straight against ETSU and The Citadel

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (4-0) defeated the ETSU Bucs (0-3) and The Citadel (1-5) on Saturday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility to extend their winning streak to four. The day was highlighted by the first career win at line 1 for Matt Pitts and a doubles win from brothers M. Pitts and Tim Pitts.  Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith got the Tigers off to a great start to the Tiger’s doubleheader, defeating ETSU’s pair of Lombisano/Britez, 6-3. The Bucs were able to secure a win on Court 2, but a clutch 6-4 win on Court 3 from M. Pitts and Trey Stinchcomb gave the Tigers the doubles point.  The momentum continued for the Tigers as every player took the first set win, as Plans Gonzalez took his first set in a grueling tie break, 7-4. Tigers Sweep Duckworth Classic Doubleheader

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team opened the 2023 season strong, taking down Furman and Wofford in commanding fashion. The Tigers swept Furman 7-0 and handled business against the Terriers, winning the match by a score of 6-1.  The day was highlighted by several doubles victories and the first dual match wins for Nini Dica, who was 2-0 in singles play in his first matches returning from injury. “It was a great day for the team and to start off the season with two dominating wins,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “The boys brought good energy and focus to both matches and competed well throughout the day.  I am happy for Nini Dica to get his first two wins as a Clemson Tiger after sitting out the past two seasons with two ACL tears.  He has worked so hard to get back on court and we’re super excited to see him healthy.  Really proud of the team and excited to get back to work next week and prepare for a tough ETSU team next Saturday.” The Tigers started hot
