Tigers Upend Boston College 5-2

WEYMOUTH, MASS. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (10-6, 1-3 ACC) came out on top Friday night against Boston College (6-5, 0-3 ACC), 5-2. The Tigers and Eagles were evenly matched from the first serve as doubles play went into tiebreakers on every court. Boston College secured the first win on Court 2, 7-6 before clinching the doubles point on Court 1, 7-6 leaving the match on Court 3 unfinished. Nini Dica helped get Clemson back on track in singles play, earning the 6-4, 6-2 win on Court 5 before four Tigers followed his lead. The Eagles were able to regain their lead with a Court 6 victory before Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker earned wins on Courts 1 and 3, 6-0, 7-5 and 7-5, 6-1, respectively. Tigers Drop Match to Georgia Tech

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (9-6, 0-3 ACC) competed well against Georgia Tech Wednesday night at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility against Georgia Tech (10-7, 1-2 ACC) but came up short, 4-1. QUOTE The Tigers got out the gates strong in doubles but were unable to secure the win on Court 2, losing 6-2. Spencer Whitaker and Ryuhei Azuma battled from Court 1 against the No. 15 doubles team in the country in Marcus McDaniel/Andres Martin, but narrowly dropped the match 6-4. Matt Pitts and Jorge Plans Gonzalez were up 4-3, but the match went unfinished. M. Pitts continued his steady play by tying things up for the Tigers 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 4. Georgia Tech didn’t back down though, securing points on Courts 3 and 5 to extend their lead to 3-1. Max Smith battled on Court 6 to push a tiebreak in the second game but would ultimately drop his match, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Tigers Fight But Fall to No. 22 Northwestern

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (8-3) fought until the very end on Sunday afternoon at the Duckworth but ultimately dropped a hard-fought match 4-3 to No. 22 Northwestern (7-3). The Tigers started off hot, playing its best doubles of the year as Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith continued to roll on Court 2, dominating by a score of 6-2. Minutes later Matt Pitts and Trey Stinchcomb clinched the point for the Tigers 6-4 as Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker had match point on Court 1 5-4, (40-30) but the match remained unfinished.  Northwestern was able to take the first singles wins on Courts 2 and 4, both with a 6-4, 6-3 score.  Nini Dica responded for the Tigers and came back down from a 4-1 hole in the first set to take it 7-6 before dominating the second set 6-1 to tie things up 2-2. Clemson Fights Off Owls 4-2 Friday Afternoon

CLEMSON, S.C. –  Spencer Whitaker and the Clemson men’s tennis team (8-2) came up clutch and defeated FAU (5-6) 4-2 on Friday afternoon at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. QUOTE The Tigers and Owls competed at a high level from the first serve, but FAU was able to get off to a quick head start, claiming a 6-2 win on Court 3 in doubles. Shortly after the Owl’s line one doubles pair secured the doubles point for FAU, leaving Max Smith and Jorge Plans Gonzalez’s 5-4 lead unfinished on Court 2.  Matt Pitts put matters into his own hands on Court 4, making quick work of FAU’s Graca by a score of 6-1, 6-2. The match continued to go back and forth as the Owls took the match on Court 6 6-4, 6-4 right before Ryuhei Azuma went on to secure his line one match, dropping the first set 6-3 and then winning the next two 6-0, 6-0.
