But thieves are targeting local firefighters while theyre out on life saving calls. Its just wrong that this is what theyre coming back to. Reporter their car windows smashed, everything from ipads, to money, even guns stolen. And just this morning, firefighters vehicles at two charlotte stations were broken into and ransacked. All this happening when they were out on a call. Thieves have targeted at least five fire stations across the city. You see them here. Similar drives have been reported in china grove, kannapolis, and mooresville. Police told Eyewitness News anchor john paul how they think the thieves know when to strike. A parking lot on north graham street around 11 20 last night. Gunfire was exchanged between two cars and one person was shot in the arm. Police still are not sure of their condition this morning. Were asking if police have any suspects. Also breaking overnight, the homeowners dog from this home, they woke up the homeowner and helped them escape a fire at this gastonia house. Officials say an electrical malfunction in the homes heating system caused the fire. Crews responded around 12 45 this morning. They found smoke coming from the home and a fire in the kitchen. Crews put out the fire in about ten minutes but by then it cost 10,000 in damage. They tell me right now theyre currently working nine different wrecks along a two mile stretch of interstate 40 near the claremont avenue. You can see one of those wrecks where a tractor trailer went from the eastbound lanes across into the westbound lanes. All of this being blamed on that freezing rain thats formed black ice on the ways here. Like these accidents along highway 31 south of hickory.
