Hours ago, this student faced a judge after police found him with a gun on his school bus. Tonight were asking the school if he had it with him on campus and around other students. Yeah alison, police couldnt say for sure but they say he could have had that gun here at Myers Park High School for several days. He was caught yesterday student spotted him with it on a school bus. I didnt hear anything about it. It was alarming news to parents at Myers Park High School. Police say 17yearold smallwood, a student at the school had a gun on his school bus yesterday around 4 00 p. M. Not very good. Like i say, i have my son going to school here, hes a ninth grader. And i would like to feel secure that hes protected while hes here. You know. So it makes me nervous. Police say smallwood was part of an after school program. They couldnt say why the teen had the gun but say he may have felt the need to protect himself. Never would i expect that someone would come or have a reason to come with a gun to school. Today he appeared in court and was given a public defender but no one in his family was there to speak on his behalf. Today School Officials wouldnt answer questions about the incident but said hell be discipline ed according to the hopefully they can stop them from coming on to the property with weapons. You have to think, kids have nice, pristine Social Security numbers. Caroline farmer is with the North Carolina attorney generals office. She says in the past, you could freeze your childs credit. But only if he or she actually had a credit report. Obviously most children dont. But now the new law allows you to freeze your childs credit regardless of whether or not they have a credit report. If for some reason you have to unfreeze your childs credit you can and then refreeze it. If your child is all ready a victim of Identity Theft, freezing is well free. For everyone else. Its 5 for each of the three major credit bureaus. Make sure you freeze all three. Its sort of like locking down all your doors. You want to lock the front, the back, and the side door to make sure everythings safe. Chiles knows about the new the hospital about freezing her babys credit. I wouldnt want him to go through what i went through. She went through it herself. I guess i was just very oblivious to it until, you know, until it happened to me. She was just 11 or 12 years old. Someone stole her Social Security number and spent years opening accounts with sprint, duke energy, and even a Home Security company all in her name. She didnt find out until she applied to Nursing School and her social showed multiple names associated with it. Did you ever realize that people were running around stealing Social Security numbers from children . No. I didnt have a clue. She spent a year cleaning it up.
