you ve heard and some of it is true and some is the perspective. unfortunately, the real truth from my perspective, we just don t have enough money and some of the reason we don t have enough money suspect the fault of anyone in this room. it s an personal tragedy. american tragedy because we do not fund our schools properly. and i m going to go out in the reservation and say being a black woman, that s america. education wasn t for everybody. so when you get to there, it becomes an in-here thing. what am i going to do about it? because i m not blaming a lot of these people that are here. what am i going to do about it, because i do believe in a very inclusive city college. i need my day classings. classe. i need my evening classes. i need my online classes because i went to peralto. i went at night because i spent my early adulthood working in the family business. there wasn t a certificate that you couldn t get in three semesters and you had your little form and it s like y
college the bridge. if you were k-12, that was the bridge you would walk across to get to state or uc. if you were not a native, city college was the bridge you would walk across to be able to have your esl and become an entrepreneur or do whatever your american dream was. if you were already an employee of the city and county, and i think sometimes that s how come sciu has a little bit different perspective, because we represent so many people, so if you were just a worker in the city and county, city college was going to be the bridge that you maintained your certificate, you got retrained, go got the training you told your boss you had when you really didn t. [ laughter ] you know, all of the that. it was a very wide scope of who we served and who we desired to serve. that was the city this is a city college i m standing here for. that has not changed for me. certain people s desires and agendas, i don t care about that. i care about city college because when i was out

programmes. and we believe the board of supervisors can play and important role bringing stakeholders together to design this kind of a policy. so what would a community higher education fund look like? in 2004, proposition h was passed and it creates a template for a partnership between the city and its expect college to ensure that ccsf continues to provide quality higher education services to our diverse san francisco communities. using that kind of a model, the city has an opportunity to dedicate annual funding in the city s budget to support a robust college for all san francisco because as the richest city in the nation, we have an opportunity to appreciate vital educational institutions by being leaders and public education funding and policy. there s no reason why san francisco should struggle to access the quality higher education they need and deserve. thank you.
