I was a very strong storm earlier in the week. In fact, the strongest hurricane on record in both the eastern pacific and the Atlantic Basin but since then, coming inland it has weakened. Now a category one hurricane with winds of just 75 miles an hour and gusts up to about 90 miles an hour. It is also moving pretty quickly to the north and east at about 21 miles an hour. Now its already brought a lot of rain for parts of mexico. Anywhere from about 10 to 11 inches in spots. And expected in the next 24 hours to bring any with from 812 inches in mexico. Then it travels north and feeds tropical moisture into texas. This is one area under flash flood watches this morning because of another system that does not need any of the rain. Antoinette is off this morning. What was once Hurricane Patricia is now Tropical Storm patricia. It made land fall. The remnants carrying a lot of rain headed north. Storm team 5s meteorologist Danielle Vollmar has the latest on this storm. Danielle it was weakened as of the 8 00 update but at one point it the strongest hurricane on record both in the eastern pacific and the atlantic basin. Now though a Tropical Storm. Of course, its been moving over land so losing its tropical characteristics with winds of about 50 miles an hour. Gusts to 90 and its moving to the north and east at about 21 miles an hour. Now it has already put down in some locations 10 inches of rain looking to add an additional 48 inches in some areas. They really dont need it in mexico. Over 146 officer fatalities per year. That is a shocking number. One officer killed somewhere in america every 60 hours. All right. But the good news is that numbers are going down. If you go back to the 1970s we were averaging 231 officers killed in the line of duty each and every year. That means the 146 number i cited is 37 lower than it was 40 years ago. That is at a time we have double number of officers serving and putting themselves at risk. Would you have expected that number would have gone up, not down. There are a number of factors that are responsible for that and i have enumerated some of them in my written testimony. I want to just spend a moment though reemphasizing the leadership that the attorney general of the United States eric holder, has focused on issue of officer safety and wellness. Im not sure he is getting enough credit for his leadership. Just a few years ago, when deaths were spiking, 171 officers killed in 2011 he held a summit in his office with about 40 L
