Pune covid cases: COVID cases rise in dist for 4th day in a row

While 921 fresh cases were reported, so were 857 recoveries and 11 COVID deaths in 24 hours. Pune district on Saturday reported 921 new coronavirus cases and 11 deaths, taking the count of infections till date to 10,77,963 and death toll to 18,229, said district health officials. This is the fourth consecutive day that the district recorded a higher number of COVID cases. As many as 857 patients recovered from hospitals in the same 24 hours, pushing the total number of recovered patients to 10,49,763. At present, 5,306 people are in institutional quarantine and 4,667 in home quarantine in the district; a total of 9,973 active COVID cases are reported. Of the fresh COVID cases on Saturday, 181 are under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 156 under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), 499 in Pune rural and 85 in Civil Surgeon and Cantonment Board areas, respectively, said, Pune district health officer Dr Bhagwan Pawar.

In major relief for citizens and shop owners of Pune district, the state government is mulling an extension of the timings of shops and restaurants from the current deadline of 4 pm, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said on Saturday. Pawar also said the state government is reportedly considering granting exemptions from COVIDinduced restrictions to the fully-vaccinated people. He said a decision on granting relaxations on the weekends is likely to be decided next week. Pawar, who is also the guardian minister for the district, chaired the COVID review meeting in the city on Saturday, which was attended by officials from district administration, Zilla Parishad officials, elected members and people’s representatives from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) as well as Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

Thus, it has been closed since Thursday this week. The hyacinth is hindering the flow and the water is not receding from the bridge. We will open it to traffic only if the rains cease.”
