Final ResultsClemson, SC Jonathan Nielson fired a team best 71 on Wednesday to lead Clemson to a sixth-place finish at the 12 team Watersound Invitational at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, FL. The field included six of the top 20 teams in the nation, including third ranked Vanderbilt who won the three-day 54-hole tournament with an 835 team score.Clemson was in second place after the first two rounds and stood in second place at 16 under-par just three shots behind Vanderbilt with 13 holes left. But the Tigers struggled on the back nine on Wednesday. The Tigers finished ahead of top 20 teams Mississippi State and Alabama.Nielsen was the top Tiger for the event with six-under-par score of 210 for the 54 holes. He finished seventh overall, his third top 10 of the season. After winning its first tournament of the year at Briar’s Creek in Johns Island, SC last week, the Clemson men’s golf team returns to action Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 19-21, at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla. The Watersound includes some of the most traditional golf programs in the nation. The field includes Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and host school Florida State.The tournament will be played on the par 72 Shark’s Tooth Golf Club Black course that was designed by Greg Norman and measures 7,246 yards.Clemson will feature a lineup that includes Andrew Swanson and Thomas Higgins. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team completed their second day of the Wake Forest Invitational as Matt Pitts, Stewart Aronson and Noa Vukadin all earned singles wins. “Great to see Noa and Stewart step up in the most important moment in their singles matches today and play aggressively. This is something we are trying to establish this weekend and they showed great examples of that today,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. “Another opportunity tomorrow to compete and get better in certain aspects in doubles and singles and I know the guys are looking forward to that tomorrow.” Vukadin’s two set victory (7-5, 7-6) marked the first in his collegiate career as Aronson’s three set victory (5-7, 6-1, 7-5) also marked his first singles win in a Tiger uniform. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team started the fall season off strong as freshman Marko Mesarovic and junior Maxwell Smith earned singles wins on the first day of the Wake Forest Invitational. “It was a good first day for the group to see how we measured up against the competition at the beginning of fall. Marko and Max both had a great competitive performance. Looking forward to tomorrow’s challenge and to see if our guys can take a positive step in the right direction and implement what we are striving for,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. In his first career singles win in a Tiger uniform, Mesarovic was able to take down Texas Tech’s Lorenzo Esquici in two quick sets (6-3, 6-4). Picking up his 20th career singles win, Smith downed Cornell’s Felipe Pinzon in two sets (6-4, 6-0) as the junior didn’t allow Pinzon to pick up a single point in the second set.
