CLEMSON, S.C. Fresh off its best performance of the spring, the Clemson men’s golf team returns to the course on Sunday to compete in the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C. The Tigers will be one of 18 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament held Sunday and Monday, March 26-27.The field includes ACC teams Clemson and Duke, Big 10 teams Maryland and Nebraska, and Big 12 team TCU.Clemson finished fourth out of 16 teams at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course in Eatonton, Ga.last Tuesday. The Tigers shot seven-under-par 281 in the final round to finish with a three-over-par 867 score.It was the third top four finish for the Tigers this year, as they look to host the NCAA Regional Tournament at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls Course in May.Four of the players who helped the Tigers to that fourth-place finish at the Linger Longer will be in the lineup at UNC Wilmington. Clemson, SC Andrew Swanson had rounds of 70 and 76 on Monday to lead Clemson after 36 holes of the Wake Forest Invitational at famed Pinehurst #2 in Pinehurst, NC. Swanson’s six over par 146 total is good enough for 34th place.Swanson has been Clemson’s best player over the last three tournaments and is 15-under-par for his last 11 rounds. Zack Gordon and Alberto Dominguez were Clemson’s second best players on Monday with 148 totals. Gordon, who is defending co-medalist of the event, had a 75 in the first round and 73 in the second. His 73 was the best for a Tiger in the second round. Dominguez had rounds of 73-75.Kian Rose and Sean Curran both had 156 totals for the 36 holes on Monday. Rose was making his first appearance of the spring after suffering a wrist injury. He had rounds of 80-76. Curran had rounds of 77-79.Clemson is in 12th place as a team with a 595 team score. Jordan Byrd’s team won the Wake Forest Invitational last year by 16 shots at the same course, and had both co-medalists.Clemson will be one of 11 schools competing in the event that will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The field includes ACC teams Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia, Duke and NC State. The other schools in the field include College of Charleston, SMU, East Tennessee State, Iowa, UNC Greensboro and Northwestern.Clemson will be led by Zack Gordon, who has a terrific track record at the Pinehurst #2 course. In the summer of 2021, the native of Gaffney, SC reached the semifinals of the North-South Amateur.
