It was a tumultuous summer for the Battle Spartans. Head coach Jonah Dubinski left to take a position in Florida and Matthew Herman was not hired to take the position until early August. That’s not ideal. But the Helias Crusaders expect to be tested tonight when they travel to Columbia to take on the Spartans in a 7 p.m. Central Missouri Activities Conference contest.
Time for some revenge. The Battle Spartans ended the Capital City Cavaliers’ upstart season last year in the opening round of the Class 5 District 4 Tournament with a 34-14 win. The Cavaliers haven’t forgotten.
The start time for the game was moved up two hours in an attempt to beat the weather. As the Helias Crusaders took knees Friday night to wrap up a 45-14 victory against the Battle Spartans at Ray Hentges Stadium, the rain began to come down for the first time. Timing is everything.
It has been a season of a lot of firsts for the Capital City Cavaliers. The first above-.500 record, the first winning streak, the first 60-point game, the first two 1,000-yard rushers. Now it’s time for another. For the first time, Capital City will host a playoff game.
The Jefferson City Jays survived a huge comeback bid from the Battle Spartans on Friday night at Adkins Stadium and outlasted the Spartans for a 48-41 victory in Central Missouri Activities Conference play.
