It was a tumultuous summer for the Battle Spartans. Head coach Jonah Dubinski left to take a position in Florida and Matthew Herman was not hired to take the position until early August. Time for some revenge. The Battle Spartans ended the Capital City Cavaliers’ upstart season last year in the opening round of the Class 5 District 4 Tournament with a 34-14 win. The Cavaliers haven’t forgotten.
The start time for the game was moved up two hours in an attempt to beat the weather. As the Helias Crusaders took knees Friday night to wrap up a 45-14 victory against the Battle Spartans at Ray Hentges Stadium, the rain began to come down for the first time. Timing is everything.
