The 2022 season was filled with many firsts for Capital City. But a couple still eluded the Cavaliers. Tonight, the No. 3 seed Cavaliers have a chance to right the missing piece from their first successful season as they look for Capital City’s first district win as it hosts No. 6 seed Battle Spartans in the first round of the Class 5 District 5 tournament.
It was a night to forget for the Jefferson City Jays. The Jays turned the ball over four times and were blanked in the second half, leading to a 29-14 victory for the Battle Spartans in Central Missouri Activities Conference play. “It doesn’t feel good,” Jefferson City coach Damon Wells said. “But I do believe there is a tremendous opportunity to learn and grow from this and progress.”
Coming off their lowest offensive output of the season, the Jefferson City Jays are ready to get back out on the field. The Jays have flushed their 24-6 loss to the Helias Crusaders and have their full attention centered on tonight’s matchup with the Battle Spartans.
Early this week, Capital City Cavaliers coach Joe Collier said the team wanted to give the fans a good show in the debut game of the Cavaliers’ new stadium. They got a great one Friday night. Capital City came back from an 11-point deficit with under 7 minutes to play to take a 37-34 Central Missouri Activities Conference win against the Battle Spartans, earning their second double-digit comeback in two weeks.
Time for some revenge. The Battle Spartans ended the Capital City Cavaliers’ upstart season last year in the opening round of the Class 5 District 4 Tournament with a 34-14 win. The Cavaliers haven’t forgotten.
