wrong. yeah, it does, we all know inmarsat data is under scrutiny from outside sources. but as skrutenness as that is, it doesn t discount the fact those arcs are the best information they have. one, it s not very specific, so it s hard to say it is the aircraft. could just as easily have been a small earthquake or other movement in the ocean. so it s not really conclusive. so to try to, you know, dissuade the search that s ongoing now, i don t think that s going to happen. the second reason i have, because these low frequency vibrations can travel for thousands and thousands of miles, i m not sure how they even figured out where it came from, to be honest with you. it could have just as easily been refracted off another object under the ocean. there s a lot of variables here. i just don t see a lot of credibility in it. i think they re even saying it s a 10% chance what would it take for them to check this out at this point?
statements about it. it s just pure varnish. and it s really toying with the emotions of these families. the experts all along have had a lot more skepticism about the pings, about the inmarsat data, you name it. there has been much more of a sense that this is maybe possibly the location. what you saw in public was a degree of certainty which never existed. and so these public officials have to apologize to these families, i think. and one way to make good on an apology right now is to lay all the cards on the table. release all the data they re working from, all the radar information, including defense radar, which might have come into play here, particularly when we think about the australian defense radar. did it in fact return a target from the airliner? is that why they re so certain that they re searching in the right place? this data needs to come out now if these public officials ever have a chance of regaining the credibility of the general
on the inmarsat data, david. what does that mean, how is that going to change the search effort going forward and how much confidence do you have in the location where even though it s some 23 plus thousand square miles that they re going to be searching that it s going to be there? well, i think that it is somewhere in that 23,000 square miles. but because i have some confidence in that inmarsat data after looking at what they released and talking with other professionals. why do you have confidence in inmarsat data? what s different in the inmarsat data and the data that was brought in that detected the pings? how is that different? the inmarsat data that detected the handshakes? yes. is that what you re referring to? i worked with michael exner to find out what that meant. even at that, even if we took in those considered those variables that we had that we don t know now, it still puts it in that very same area.
report. mary, what do you think is missing from this report? well, for the family s sake i would have liked to have seen more of the detail of how they used this data to come up with their conclusions, and as david said, he s absolutely right, it s not just inmarsat. many other participants, inlewdiinlewd i including boeing and inmarsat. much better for families to proip the data and full analysis and earlier this morning on cnn, ceo of inmarsat, rupert pearce said he provided all of that to malaysia and they are perfectly happy if malaysia releases it. why they did not, i m not sure, but the data certainly does support, you know, that inmarsat had, you know, certainly a lot to analyze, and it s not just, you know, seven random points. there s something there and it s very important for the families to have it. so this report, david, was able to kind of pinpoint, maybe, where the plane went down, but does it lead to any other clues?
