inmarsat data, the fuel consumption. everything pointed to this area. i have said all along i don t know how you leave this area if you re confident that those pings were from the black boxes, how do you begin to leave this area and think about any place else? so maybe to expand that bull s eye to include three or times wider than they have been looking now and just widen that area with the sonar. so you see where every pebble is. i just don t know how you leave this place before you really take that part of the sea apart completely. all right, david gallo. coming up, fading hope of finding anybody alive. the divers have found no air pockets in the part of the ship where they thought they could be. also the remarkable story of one crew member on board that ferry. a 22-year-old woman who stayed on board to help passengers
and what i think is really interesting is what david gallo just said. because everything got to where they are now in a hurry. they had 30 days to hear the pings. they had to get down afterwards to see if they have could find it. everything you are looking at was put together very, very fast. now, you start the deep understanding of the terrain, the different types. the different assets, the payment mechanisms. the sort of thing, anderson, that goes into a long-term search that may go down once, twice, three or four times over the next year, two or three years. do you david gallo, do you believe they re looking in the right place? or do you have to just kind of trust well, it is a place they had to look. they had the pings and the inmarsat data, the fuel consumption. everything pointed to this area. i have said all along i don t know how you leave this area if you re confident that those
assumptions. what was that analysis? why did they say the plane was here in the first place? arthur, there has not been a single piece of debris found. that is why these reports and these stories, you saw the facial reaction on the prime minister of australia. there are people and family members who are very seriously asking that question because there has been no proof to the contrary. look, the bottom line is that it s certainly understandable why people are saying what they have gone, may have gone the northern route and is intact. or beached on an island in the indian ocean. that s another one. but we do have the inmarsat data, the radar data with performance data. well also have the pings. all of these coalesce in an area that shows a likely crash zone for the airport. i say if this plane landed intact or somewhat intact, which it may have done, it was in the south indian ocean. right. so intact could be in the ocean.
inmarsat data which is fair to say is the single most important information they have used they say to determine where this plane is. well, it s not just the inmarsat data. all the facts are missing there is no there is no cargo manifest. right. there is no audio from the air traffic control which should be public record, right. so audio both before and after. there is no history of the inmarsat data. so if they re looking at just the sequence of the pings, they haven t looked at the days before. that same flight is a regular flight. so there should be comparable inmarsat data on equivalent pings to do comparison to. but none of that information has been disclosed. so we just have to trust what they tell us. and that s just not acceptable. and, you know, sarah, the bluefin-21 obviously, as we were reporting, it s almost done. in the single most promising areas, they described it themselves, 80% of the way done, unless there is some sort of
are. very heartbreaking, obviously. what are the malaysian authorities doing to deal with the heartbreak of thesefamilies now six weeks-plus into this investigation? the families argument, or at least some of them, are essentially this, since there s no wreckage and since there s no proof, there is still the possibility of their loved ones being alive. and from the malaysian authorities and, indeed, the australians and everybody who touched this story, that is the difficult dance that they have to deal with, because on the one hand they have to acknowledge and provide the information when they request it, things like the credibility of the inmarsat data, why didn t the emergency locator transmitters go off? what do we know about search and rescue? and then on the other side, those families that are now
