it searches for months and months and months. then what? well, that s possible. but man, i don t know where you start then at that point. if there s nothing down there, you know, they ve exhausted so many different options, so many different capabilities, they ve extended the search to areas far beyond what we ever would have expected it to be. so if there s nothing down there, i think it s time to go back and relook at the inmarsat data, possibly fly that route with another aircraft exactly and see if it really is that inmarsat data is accurate. there is data to go back to but i think this is the best shot and i m still pretty confident that we re in the right place. david soucie, thank you so much. we ve lost our signal with rob mccallum. our apologies to him. when we come back, making a statement in the black sea. a russian fighter jet is getting really close to a u.s. navy ship. what the pentagon is saying about this provocative maneuver.
investigators just can t lay to rest for these families saying that they can only go with this inmarsat data that they have right now. nic robertson, thank you very much. you know, joining me, our panel, richard quest, miles o brien, jeff weiss. this is pretty incredible. the families are asking these questions, miles. they are not be given the data. they are now asking, it s now being discussed openly with theories that have been dismissed as utterly fantastic like landing near the military island of diego garcia. why can t they give all the information, all of the data? they have secret investigations in malaysia. these families are entitled to this information at this point. they have been tortured. they have an investigation that has been rife with lack of communication. credibility is next to nothing. as a result the competency we don t know where it is.

would there be conditions where the pilot, in light of such an event, would speed the plane up to get to a safe airport? is that anything of a clue? it does fit with the scenario where speed and altitude was preprogrammed in for some reason. in the midst of an emergency, deselect a speed and an altitude and maybe it was close to the red line, the maximum speed of the aircraft, which you d want to do if you were trying to return to an airport quickly. it fits in with some sort of mechanical failure. the question is, were those two additional turns that we saw based on this inmarsat data, are those real or not? i m not so sure anymore. there s been so many questions reopened. maybe the case for something that was either a bomb causing a decompression or mechanical failure, maybe that case is stronger today. peter? it could be. it still doesn t explain why you
