The Helias Crusaders are searching for consistency.
“Offensively, we were sluggish again tonight,” Helias coach Chris Hentges said Friday night after the Crusaders dropped a 31-20 decision to the Rock Bridge Bruins on Homecoming at Ray Hentges Stadium.
“We have to make plays, we have to play better.”
The fourth quarter belonged to Cardinal Ritter. The Lions scored three times in a less than six-minute span in the fourth quarter Friday night to pull away to a 40-14 victory against the Helias Crusaders at Ray Hentges Stadium.
The best way to combat speed is with speed. But the Helias Crusaders know they can’t match the speed the Cardinal Ritter Lions will bring tonight to Ray Hentges Stadium in a clash of unbeaten state-ranked teams.
It was unfamiliar territory. For the first time this season, the Helias Crusaders were behind in a game as the Battle Spartans took a 16-10 lead into halftime Friday night at Ray Hentges Stadium. The deficit didn’t last long. Helias scored three touchdowns in the first seven minutes of the third quarter on its way to a 58-16 victory against Battle in Central Missouri Activities Conference play.
The Helias Crusaders are undefeated all-time in Central Missouri Activities Conference play. They don’t believe there’s a reason for that to stop now. Helias begins its bid for a third consecutive CMAC football title tonight when the Crusaders open conference play in Columbia against the Hickman Kewpies.
