Jacob Bridgeman and Colby Patton both shot rounds of six-under-par 66 on Monday to lead Clemson to a four-place improvement in the team standings at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Ga. Clemson improved from eighth place to fourth with an 11-under-par team score of 277 in the second round, tied for the second best team round in the 15-team field. Sixth-ranked Vanderbilt and 10th ranked Georgia have the team lead at 20-under-par 556, while 19th ranked Florida is third at 12-under par 564. The 22nd ranked Tigers are fourth at 569 and Charlotte is fifth at 572. Fourth-ranked North Carolina, who the Tigers beat by 16 shots on Monday, stands in sixth place at 579. Coming off its first tournament victory of the season, Clemson returns to the course Sunday to compete in the three-day 54-hole Linger Longer Invitational at the Jack Nicklaus designed Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.Clemson won the Wake Forest Invitational at famed Pinehurst #2 in its last outing on March 7-8. The Tigers won the event by 16 shots in first-year head coach Jordan Byrd’s first career victory. Clemson, S.C. Colby Patton and Zack Gordon were co-medalists, leading Clemson to a 16-stroke victory at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst #2 golf club in Pinehurst, NC on Tuesday. It was the first tournament victory for first-year head coach Jordan Byrd. Clemson won the tournament from wire-to-wire and had the low team score in each round, including a two-under-par 278 in the final round on Tuesday, the low team round of the tournament. “I was pleased with our performance the entire tournament,” said Byrd. “We talked about there were holes where a par, even a bogey, was a good score. That was especially the case the first day when there was a lot of wind. “Colby really drove the ball well and his high ball flight on his approaches to the green were effective. We thought Zack would do well here because he has played the course a lot and had success at the North-South. I was really proud of Carter Pendley. He really came back strong and was a big reason we won this week.�

Colby Patton fired a second round 68 Monday afternoon to take over the individual lead, and help Clemson to an 11-shot team advantage after two rounds of the Wake Forest Invitational at famed Pinehurst #2 in Pinehurst, N.C.Clemson has a 580 team score through 36 holes on the par 70 course that is playing to 7125 yards, 11 shots ahead of Duke. East Carolina is third at 592 and host school Wake Forest, ranked 20th in the nation by Golfstat, is fourth at 593. San Francisco and Kentucky are tied for fifth at 594, while NC State is seventh at 592.The 12 teams in the field played 36 holes on the Pinehurst #2 course in windy conditions for most of the day. Clemson held the team lead at the end of 18 holes by one shot over Duke with a 296 score.The Tigers improved that team score by 12 strokes in the afternoon. Jordan Byrd’s team will compete in the Wake Forest Invitational March 7-8 at the famed Pinehurst #2 in Pinehurst, NC. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Pinehurst #2 was designed in 1907 by the legendary Donald Ross, one of 400 courses he designed throughout the United States. However, it was the only one of his courses where he lived. It has been the site of the 1999, 2005 and 2014 United States Opens, and the 1962, 2008 and 2019 United States Amateurs. It was also the home of the 1951 Ryder Cup. It has been announced as the site of the 2024, 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047 United States Opens. Clemson’s lineup will include three seniors, a junior and a freshman. Graduate student Kyle Cottam will be number-one in the order. The native of Knoxville, Tenn. has a 72.40 stroke average for 15 rounds so far this year. Ranked #42
