Bridgeman Ties Clemson Record with Opening Round 68 at Calusa Cup

CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson senior Jacob Bridgeman fired a four-under-par 68 in the opening round of the Calusa Cup on Sunday and  tied the school career record for rounds in the 60s. The tournament is being held Sunday-through-Tuesday at Calusa Pines Golf Club in Naples, Fla.Bridgeman’s 68 was his 46th career round in the 60s, tied for first in school history with Bryson Nimmer, who was an All-American at Clemson between 2015-19. It was the continuation of quite a month for Bridgeman, who has now shot in the 60s in six of his last seven rounds and in 11 of 22 rounds this year.Clemson is in eighth place in the nine-team field that includes seven of the top 25 teams in the nation. The Tigers have a team score of  eight-over-par 296 after the first round, just six shots behind number-one ranked Oklahoma, and just nine shots behind fourth-place Wake Forest after the first 18 holes. CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson will compete in a major college golf tournament for the third consecutive week when Jordan Byrd’s Tigers play in the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Course in Naples, Fla. this coming Sunday through Tuesday. The teams will play 18 holes per day April 3-5. It will be Clemson’s final regular season tournament before play starts at the ACC Tournament April 22.Clemson is one of nine teams in the field that includes seven of the top 25 teams in the nation according to the latest College Golf Coaches Poll and the latest Golfstat rankings.Leading the field is the unanimous No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. Bridgeman Moves to No 9 in PGA University Ranking

CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson senior Jacob Bridgeman has moved from 13th to ninth in the latest PGA University rankings. It is the highest ranking for Bridgeman, Clemson’s top player the last three seasons. It was also the largest jump among players in the top 15 of the latest rankings.Bridgeman has made the jump off a recent run that has seen him finish in the top four in three consecutive tournaments. First, he finished fourth at the Watersound Invitational at Panama City on Feb. 22. He then won the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course in Eatonton, Ga. on March 22. Just yesterday he finished third against a national field at the Valspar Collegiate. Over his last nine rounds in these three events he has a 68.22 stroke average.Bridgeman’s performance at the Linger Longer was among the best in Clemson history as he won the tournament by six shots, tied for the largest margin of victory in Clemson history. CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson senior All-American Jacob Bridgeman continued his record setting play with a second-round 63 Monday afternoon and is in second place after 36 holes at the Valspar Collegiate at The Floridian in Palm City, Fla.Bridgeman and his Clemson teammates are tied for ninth as a team after 36 holes with a 565 score. Pepperdine, ranked 10th in the nation, had a strong day and stands at 28-under-par 540 after two rounds. The defending National Champions are 14 shots ahead of sixth ranked Arizona State and 16 ahead of fourth ranked North Carolina, the highest ranked team in the field. CLEMSON, S.C. Jacob Bridgeman and Colby Patton both shot rounds of six-under-par 66 on Monday to lead Clemson to a four-place improvement in the team standings at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Ga. Clemson improved from eighth place to fourth with an 11-under-par team score of 277 in the second round, tied for the second best team round in the 15-team field. Sixth-ranked Vanderbilt and 10th ranked Georgia have the team lead at 20-under-par 556, while 19th ranked Florida is third at 12-under par 564. The 22nd ranked Tigers are fourth at 569 and Charlotte is fifth at 572. Fourth-ranked North Carolina, who the Tigers beat by 16 shots on Monday, stands in sixth place at 579.
