Swanson, Rose Earn PING All-Region Recognition

CLEMSON, S.C.  Clemson University men’s golfers Andrew Swanson (Bluffton, S.C./May River) and Kian Rose (Guateng, South Africa/St. John’s College) were named to the NCAA Division I PING East All-Region team, announced by the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America). This marks the 13th time in program history that at least two Tigers have been selected to the All-Region team. It marks the first career All-Region accolades for Swanson and Rose. Swanson led the team in stroke average (71.39) and finished with two top-10 finishes, including medalist honors at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii. Swanson shot an 18-under-par 195 over three rounds to claim the individual victory. His third-round score of 63 was a season-low for the sophomore. He finished the season with nine rounds in the 60’s. Swanson concluded the season with a 14th-place finish at the ACC Championshp and a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Salem Regional. Over the course of the season, he added six top-15 finishes.

Clemson to Compete at UNC Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate

CLEMSON, S.C. Fresh off its best performance of the spring, the Clemson men’s golf team returns to the course on Sunday to compete in the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C. The Tigers will be one of 18 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament held Sunday and Monday, March 26-27.The field includes ACC teams Clemson and Duke, Big 10 teams Maryland and Nebraska, and Big 12 team TCU.Clemson finished fourth out of 16 teams at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course in Eatonton, Ga.last Tuesday.  The Tigers shot seven-under-par 281 in the final round to finish with a three-over-par 867 score.It was the third top four finish for the Tigers this year, as they look to host the NCAA Regional Tournament at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls Course in May.Four of the players who helped the Tigers to that fourth-place finish at the Linger Longer will be in the lineup at UNC Wilmington. Clemson Improves to Sixth Place after Two Rounds of Linger Longer Invitational

Clemson, S.C. Jonathan Nielsen had a one-under-par 71 and Andrew Swanson added an even-par 72 to lead Clemson to a 291 team score and an improvement to sixth place after two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational on Monday.  The 16 teams will conclude the tournament on Tuesday at the Great Waters Golf Club in Eatonton, Ga. Clemson improved to sixth place with the three-over-par  team score and are just two shots behind fifth place Chattanooga.   Alabama leads the tournament with a 570, while Georgia is one shot back. Clemson played the front nine on Monday in five-over-par, then played the back nine in two-under-par.  The Tigers posted the sixth best score of the day, including scoring 20 shots better than 16th ranked Virginia.    For the second straight day the average score for the 91 players was over 75. Nielsen’s 71 was his eighth under-par round of the year and included three birdies and two bogeys.  He is in a tie for 19th place after two rounds with a 146 score
