SYRACUSE, N.Y. Clemson was unable to pull off a season sweep of Syracuse, as the Orange took care of business on its home court. The Tigers topped Syracuse 78-61 at home earlier in the season, but the Orange won 64-54 at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday.
The Tigers (15-6, 9-6) recorded a field goal percentage of 33.9, while the Orange (15-8, 9-7) shot 37.5 from the floor. Each team made 10 shots from beyond the arc, and Syracuse won the rebounding battle 39-37. The Tigers dished out 17 assists and scored 28 points off the bench.
Al-Amir Dawes and Alex Hemenway led the Tigers in scoring with 11 points apiece. Both guards sank three 3-pointers. Chase Hunter collected seven points and four assists, and Aamir Simms tallied six points and eight rebounds. Hunter Tyson contributed six points and seven boards, and Clyde Trapp was credited with five assists and five rebounds. For Syracuse, Alan Griffin netted six threes and scored a game-high 22 points.
CLEMSON, S.C. The NCAA has announced its list of accepted athletes for the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with Clemson set to be represented by six student-athletes. The Tigers’ contingent is made up of Trishauna Hemmings (60-meter hurdles, 200m), Laurie Barton (800m), Andrea Foster (800m), Terryon Conwell (200m), Fabian Hewitt (60m) and Giano Roberts (60m hurdles).
The competition will get underway on Thursday, March 11, and will go through Saturday, March 13, at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The indoor championships return to the University of Arkansas for the first time since 2015 and for the twelfth time in history. Clemson has won six national championships during indoor championships hosted by Arkansas.
Conti Named National Player of the Week
Kansas City, MO – Sophomore Caroline Conti was named as the Division I Women’s National Player of the Week, announced by United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday. It is the first national recognition for the Greenville, S.C. native.
“I’m honored for this recognition, but I wouldn’t be here without the work and support of all of my teammates and coaches,” said Conti. “I am excited for what’s coming for us this season and ready for much more work to do – humble and hungry.”
Netting a brace in the spring opener, Conti added another goal and an assist on Sunday’s match against the Cougars, pushing her two-game total to seven points. Her brace marked the second multi-goal game of her young career after notching her first in the fall portion of the season against Virginia Tech.
Conti Picks Up Second ACC Weekly Honor of the Season
Clemson, S.C. – Sophomore forward Caroline Conti was named as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, picking up the second ACC weekly honor of her career and the second of the 2020-21 season after being named in the fall portion of the season alongside teammate Hensley Hancuff.
The conference recognition comes after being named the United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Conti picked up where she left off in the spring season, recording seven points across the Tigers’ opening two games against College of Charleston. The Greenville, S.C. native tallied a brace in Thursday’s opening match before extending her point streak with a goal and an assist in the Tigers’ sweep of the Cougars on Sunday.
Tempe, Az. The Clemson men's tennis team (5-6, 1-3 ACC) made their 2021 debut in the ITA rankings on Wednesday morning tied for No. 44.. It marks the second-straight season that the Tigers have been ranked within the top-50. For the full release from the ITA click here. Clemson's most notable win of the 2021 season thus far came on Feb. 19 when the Tigers defeated Florida State for the first time since 2014. Additionally, Clemson fell in 3-4 decisions to now No. 39 Miami and No. 31 Duke on Feb. 21 and 28, respectively. Last season the Tigers received their first ranking since 2016, making their debut on Feb. 18, 2020 at No. 45 and achieved a season high mark of No. 40. The Tigers are back in action this weekend when they host T-44 Georgia Tech on Friday at 5 p.m at The Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
