Tigers Travel To Kiawah Island For Second Spring Tournament Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team is set to return to the course as they make the short trek to compete in the Palmetto Spring Intercollegiate from Feb. 21-22. The event, which is hosted by College of Charleston, will be held at the 6,021-yard, par-72 Turtle Point Course located at the Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C.  The tournament marks the program’s first of two events held in the state of South Carolina as the Tigers are slated to host the Clemson Invitational from March 26-28 at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Softball team scored three runs in the third inning and two runs in the fifth to earn the program’s first-ever ACC road victory, 5-2, over Georgia Tech in its first-ever ACC road game. The Tigers are now 20-0 all-time when scoring five runs or more. Valerie Cagle pitched for all seven innings for the Tigers and improved to 3-1 on the season. Tigers Fall to Tar Heels, 1-0, in Exhibition Match

PINEVILLE, N.C. In its lone exhibition before entering the spring season, Clemson fell, 1-0, to North Carolina at CSA OrthoCarolina Sportsplex on Saturday afternoon. I saw that we played well and it was a really good exercise [for our team], said head coach Mike Noonan after the match. We had to deal with some adversity and I thought the character of the team was excellent although the result was not. Clemson will now set its sights on its spring season opener against Syracuse under the lights of Historic Riggs Field on March 7 at 5 p.m.

Oliver Purnell was the first African-American head coach of a men’s sport in Clemson history.  He served as the leader of the men’s basketball program for seven years and took Clemson a record tying 25 wins in 2006-07 and the championship game of the NIT.   He then guided Clemson to the NCAA Tournament each of his last three years, just the second Clemson coach to do that. In 2008, he coached Clemson to the championship game of the ACC Tournament, just the second appearance in the final game in school history.   That season the Tigers finished 22nd in the final AP poll, then finished 24th according to AP  the following season.  Purnell is the only coach to lead Clemson to consecutive final top 25 national rankings. One of the most respected coaches in the nation during his career, he is still the only Clemson head coach to serve as president of a National Coaches Association.

Tigers Top Florida State for the First Time Since 2014; Azuma Earns First Ranked Win

Clemson, S.C. For the first time since 2014, the Clemson men’s tennis team (5-3, 1-0 ACC) downed Florida State (3-4, 0-1 ACC) in a 4-3 thriller in the conference opener on Friday night. Freshman Ryuhei Azuma earned his first career win over a ranked opponent in his first match of the kind. After falling to the Seminoles on Court 3 in doubles, Yizhou Liu and Teodor Giusca picked up a win on Court 1, 6-4. Spencer Whitaker and Azuma followed with a 7-5 win at line two to clinch the point for Clemson. Carlos Kelaidis earned the first singles victory of the match for Tigers, a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. Azuma followed closely behind defeating No. 77 Alex Knaff on Court 2, 6-3, 6-1. Despite Clemson picking up three-straight points, Florida State rallied to tie the match at three-all. However, Whitaker sealed the Tiger victory fending off Andreja Petrovic 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 on Court 6.
