Clemson Opener Begins Friday at 10 a m

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson track and field program is set to return to action at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex on Friday, Dec. 3 as the Tigers welcome 16 teams for the Clemson Opener. Action will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, as the men's pole vault, high jump and weight throw begin along with the women's long jump. Track events will begin at 11:40 a.m. with the women's 600m event. EUGENE, Ore. - The Clemson track and field program collected three first-team All-America honors during the final day of men’s competition at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening. Clemson’s men finished in a tie for 20th overall after scoring 20 points as a team, making it the Tigers’ best team finish since the 2002 championships.  Roje Stona earned first-team All-American honors in the men’s discus after finishing as the national runner-up after throwing 61.94 meters (203 feet, 2inches) in the second round. Friday evening saw Stona complete a series of  55.55m-61.94m-X-57.89m-60.35m-61.20m. Stona’s final result allowed him to become the first Tiger to collect first-team honors in the event since Jack Harkness finished second overall at the 1982 championships. The Clemson track and field program saw its men shine in the spotlight on Friday during the NCAA East Region Prelims, as all six of the Tigers who competed individually, along with one relay, secured their spots at the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The meet will see its schedule of competition come to a close on Saturday afternoon as the women attempt to secure their tickets to Oregon.   Giano Roberts, Lafranz Campbell and Devon Brooks combined to produce one of the greatest 110-meter hurdle showings in program history during Friday night’s quarterfinal rounds. Roberts placed fourth overall following his all conditions lifetime best of 13.44 seconds in the opening heat of the event. In the second heat, Campbell and Brooks crossed the line in unison, as the clock stopped at 13.53 for both athletes. RALEIGH, N.C.  The Clemson track and field program concluded competition at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday evening after seeing its women’s team score 69 points to finish in a tie for fifth, and its men’s team score 65 points to finish in sixth. Saturday’s action saw Clemson capture two ACC titles at 800 meters, garner seven first-team All-ACC honors, and collect 12 second-team All-ACC accolades. Kameron Jones became the best men’s 800m runner in Clemson history after setting a new school record of 1:45.47 en route to winning the event’s final on Saturday. In addition to the new school record, Jones also set a meet record and facility record while becoming the fastest collegiate athlete at the distance this season. The previous meet record stood at 1:46.66 and was held by Virginia’s Paul Ereng following his performance at the 1988 conference championships.
