Clemson Downs South Carolina In Top-Ranked Match, Bornkamp Nets Brace COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 8/11 Clemson women’s soccer team picked up their 12th win of the season as they downed in-state rival No. 11/9 South Carolina 2-1 at Stone Stadium on Saturday night. It marks the second consecutive year that the Tigers have defeated the Gamecocks after taking the 2019 match by a 1-0 margin and just the third time in the all-time series they have gone consecutive years with wins over South Carolina. Clemson moves to 12-4-0 on the season as South Carolina falls to 10-4-0. “It’s a great result for having two highly-ranked teams play each other,” said Head Coach Eddie Radwanski. “What a great response from our kids – they went out there and did it with an incredible second half. To come down here and beat them on their field to cap off an undefeated spring is special.”

Hannah Garners ACC Postseason Honors

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson freshman outside hitter Camryn Hannah (Lansing, Ill./Marist HS) has been named a 2020 Second Team All-ACC recipient in addition to earning ACC All-Freshman honors, the conference office announced Monday. Hannah became the third player under the direction of Clemson Head Coach Michaela Franklin to garner All-ACC accolades as well as the third freshman under the guidance of Franklin to earn ACC All-Freshman honors. Hannah led all league freshmen during the ACC regular season in kills (306) and kills per set (3.97), which were good for second and fifth, respectively, in the conference overall. Clemson Tied for Second after First Round of Collegiate Invitational at Country Club of Birmingham Clemson, S.C. Jacob Bridgeman fired a three-under-par 68 on Monday to lead fourth-ranked Clemson to a 291 team score and a tie for second place with Tennessee after the first round of the Collegiate Invitational @ Country Club of Birmingham. The 14-team tournament that includes seven of the top 25 teams in the nation, will run through Wednesday with the teams playing 18 holes per day. One of the top regular-season tournaments of the season, the field includes nine SEC teams, the first time this year Clemson has played in a tournament against SEC teams. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham, but a tornado did considerable damage to the course and knocked down over 1,500 trees.

Clemson also received strong performances from freshman middle blocker Colleen Finney and sophomore setter Mckenna Slavik. Finney registered a season-high seven blocks, including three solos, along with nine kills. Slavik dished out a match-high 38 assists and dug 16 Hokie attacks, just one dig shy of her career best. With the win, Clemson concluded its 2020 season with an overall record of 12-10 and was 6-10 in ACC matchups. Virginia Tech (6-11, 5-11 ACC) also closed out its season on Saturday. Both teams were knotted at 12-12 in the opening set, but Clemson outscored the Hokies 13-7 in the final 20 plays of the set to win it, 25-19. Hannah posted five of her 20 total kills in game No. 1 on just six swings with no errors. Finney and Thomas also added four kills each. Set No. 1 saw plenty of fluid offense as Clemson hit .538, while the Hokies hit .345.

Campbell Makes MLB Debut By: Brian Hennessy CLEMSON, S.C. – Former Tiger righthander Paul Campbell (Malden, Mass.) made his major league debut with the Miami Marlins in a relief role against the Tampa Bay Rays in Miami on Saturday night. He pitched 2.0 innings with one strikeout. Campbell became the 62nd former Tiger to play in a major league game and third in 2021, joining Brad Miller (Phillies) and Eli White (Rangers). Campbell had a 21-10 record, two saves and a 3.12 ERA in 233.1 innings pitched over 49 appearances (33 starts) in three minor league seasons (2017-19) in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization. Campbell, who was a Rule 5 draft selection by the Marlins in December, also has 188 strikeouts against 60 walks while allowing only 196 hits in his minor league career.
