Three Tigers Named to Ping All-Region Team
Clemson, S.C. Turk Pettit, Jacob Bridgeman, and Kyle Cottam have all been named to the Ping All-Region Golf Team as chosen by the Collegiate Golf Coaches Association. All three are key members of Clemson’s fourth-ranked team that is competing this weekend at the NCAA National Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona.
It marks the first time since 2018 and the seventh time since the CGCA starting picking all-region teams in 2007 that Clemson has had at least three golfers named to the team. It is the third all-region selection for Pettit and Bridgeman and the first for Cottam.
Penley’s Tigers Head to Atlanta for ACC Tournament
Clemson, S.C. Clemson, ranked in the top five in the nation in all three college golf rankings, will head to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the 2021 ACC Men’s Golf Championship at the par 70 Capital City Club Crabapple Course. For the first time, the conference will use a format that includes stroke play and match play.
The 12 ACC teams will play 36 holes of stroke play on Friday, April 23, and 18 holes of stroke play on Saturday, April 24. The ACC individual champion will be crowned Saturday after the 54 holes of stroke play have been completed. The top four teams after the 54 holes of stroke play will advance to the semifinals of match play on Sunday. The championship will be determined on Monday, April 26 when the two semifinal winners compete in a match play championship.
Clemson Tied for Second after First Round of Collegiate Invitational at Country Club of Birmingham
Clemson, S.C. Jacob Bridgeman fired a three-under-par 68 on Monday to lead fourth-ranked Clemson to a 291 team score and a tie for second place with Tennessee after the first round of the Collegiate Invitational @ Country Club of Birmingham. The 14-team tournament that includes seven of the top 25 teams in the nation, will run through Wednesday with the teams playing 18 holes per day.
One of the top regular-season tournaments of the season, the field includes nine SEC teams, the first time this year Clemson has played in a tournament against SEC teams. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham, but a tornado did considerable damage to the course and knocked down over 1,500 trees.
