Yreka High School nurse honored for hard work during COVID pandemic Siskiyou Daily News For the past year, nurse Amy Gaither has been hard at working making sure things are running as smoothly as possible with COVID-19 measures and safety at Yreka High School. “It s a challenging year for nurses,” she said. “In my 32 years as a nurse this has been my most difficult year yet.” Gaither said it is a true team effort to make sure safety measures are constantly in place: ensuring students keep a safe social distance from one another and they re wearing their masks. Since the start of the year students have been going to school in a rotation of three days and two days a week. ....
Yreka City Council: Body Art events are a go in split decision [Siskiyou Daily News, Yreka, Calif.] Jan. 26 After tabling in November a resolution to approve street closures and other requests for Yreka’s 2021 Art Hops events, the council gave the go-ahead for the events to happen at its meeting Tuesday by a 3-2 vote. The sticking point has been in regards to two body painting events, dubbed “My Body Your Canvas.” Art Hops events are scheduled to happen six times this year on the fourth Friday of each month, from May through October, depending on the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. ....
Here are the winners of YMCA s virtual Ugly Sweater Run Siskiyou Daily News If you noticed people walking or running around the community last week wearing colorful ugly sweaters or other holiday attire, you may have seen folks taking part in the annual Siskiyou Family YMCA Ugly Sweater Run. Due to COVID-19, the race was held virtually this year, with participants having three days to complete the 2-mile run/walk or 5-mile run. Noelle Collier, Health and Fitness Director for the YMCA, helped organize the event. She said 106 people signed up, which exceeded their expectations. Normally, around 120 or so people take part in the run, which is in its ninth year. ....
