Retiring Grenada Elementary School teacher made a mark on her students Siskiyou Daily News After teaching at Grenada Elementary School for 25 years, Naomi Corbin will retire at the end of this school year. “I love it when you work with students and they start to understand what you are teaching them,” said Corbin, who was a Mount Shasta High School graduate and taught preschool for 10 years before getting her teaching credentials and starting at GES. “I feel like I can be a difference and can help have a solid learning foundation. I want to show them they are capable. I try to make things interesting and understandable and try to get that passion for learning instilled in them.” ....
Yreka High School nurse honored for hard work during COVID pandemic Siskiyou Daily News For the past year, nurse Amy Gaither has been hard at working making sure things are running as smoothly as possible with COVID-19 measures and safety at Yreka High School. “It s a challenging year for nurses,” she said. “In my 32 years as a nurse this has been my most difficult year yet.” Gaither said it is a true team effort to make sure safety measures are constantly in place: ensuring students keep a safe social distance from one another and they re wearing their masks. Since the start of the year students have been going to school in a rotation of three days and two days a week. ....
“She brings a strong care for students, and her advocacy for their needs assures everyone is staying focused on our primary goals,” said Yreka Union High School District Superintendent and YHS principal Mark Greenfield, who commended her for her achievement. He said her experiences as a counselor and as a sports official have given her an unique perspective of school operations and student life. “Her leadership is obvious to all that know and work with her,” Greenfield said. “She has blended in from day one to become a great colleague and member of our team. “It means a lot to be recognized for this honor,” said Daws, noting that its made more special because she was chosen by her fellow administrators. ....
