A Broussard man was killed Monday when he was struck by a passing truck along U.S. Highway 90 near KOL Drive, according to the Broussard Police Department.
Clarence Williams Jr., 47, was found dead when police arrived at the scene of a collision between a pickup truck and a pedestrian shortly after 5 a.m. Memorial Day morning.
Police determined that the driver of the truck was unable to see Williams because of the lighting conditions and his dark clothing. The driver is not facing charges, and no alcohol use is suspected on his part. ....

BROUSSARD, La. — Seven men have applied for the interim police chief position at the Broussard Police Department.
The position will only be temporary, as the chief spot is an elected office. Earlier this month, Broussard Police Chief Branon Decou sent a retirement letter to state officials after an announcement about an investigation into sexual harassment allegations of a former employee. His retirement takes effect June 1.
Since there is more than a year left in Decou s term, the City Council must call an election for the remainder of it. Decou was last re-elected in 2018. ....

The City of Broussard is beginning the search for an interim police chief following the announcement of Chief Brannon Decou s retirement.
That letter was also sent to Mayor Ray Bourque, the Broussard City Council and the Broussard Police Department.
According to the letter, Decou s last day as chief will be June 1, 2021.
The City of Broussard has formed a committee to assist in the search for an interim police chief.
The interim chief will serve until the next regular election in the fall of 2022.
The city says that the nine-member committee will be comprised of three council members, the mayor, and five community members who have law enforcement experience. The committee will also review resumes and make recommendations to the city council of up to three candidates for final review by the mayor and the entire city council. ....

BROUSSARD, La. — A former Broussard Police officer has filed a lawsuit against the city over allegations of sexual harassment from the leadership of the Broussard Police Department.
The lawsuit is asking for $75,000 and was filed by former officer Ryan Savoie against the City of Broussard Thursday in the 15th Judicial District Court.
According to the lawsuit, Savoie began employment with Broussard Police Department on May 13, 2019 and received unwelcome, inappropriate texts, Snapchat messages and Snapchat photos from Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou. ....
