The City of Broussard is beginning the search for an interim police chief following the announcement of Chief Brannon Decou s retirement.
That letter was also sent to Mayor Ray Bourque, the Broussard City Council and the Broussard Police Department.
According to the letter, Decou s last day as chief will be June 1, 2021.
The City of Broussard has formed a committee to assist in the search for an interim police chief.
The interim chief will serve until the next regular election in the fall of 2022.
The city says that the nine-member committee will be comprised of three council members, the mayor, and five community members who have law enforcement experience. The committee will also review resumes and make recommendations to the city council of up to three candidates for final review by the mayor and the entire city council. ....

BROUSSARD, La. — A former Broussard Police officer has filed a lawsuit against the city over allegations of sexual harassment from the leadership of the Broussard Police Department.
The lawsuit is asking for $75,000 and was filed by former officer Ryan Savoie against the City of Broussard Thursday in the 15th Judicial District Court.
According to the lawsuit, Savoie began employment with Broussard Police Department on May 13, 2019 and received unwelcome, inappropriate texts, Snapchat messages and Snapchat photos from Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou. ....

BROUSSARD, La. (KADN) - The Broussard police chief has announced his retirement amid an investigation into sexual harassment allegations against him.
In an email sent Monday, Chief Brannon Decou said, It has been an honor to serve our city in public safety for the last 30 years in various capacities and for over twenty years as your Chief of Police. Read the letter in full below. ....

Woman shot in hand during dispute, Broussard Police say


A man is facing multiple charges after Broussard police said he shot a woman in the hand.
Investigators said there was an altercation between neighbors at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. During the altercation, Phillip Leblanc III shot from outside the door of a home and hit a woman in the hand, Chief Brannon Decou said in a release. 
The woman was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition. 
A man and a boy were inside the home in the 400 block of Mary Street where police said Leblanc shot, but neither sustained any injuries, Decou said. 
When police searched Leblanc s home, they found a handgun, several magazines of ammunition and suspected marijuana.  ....
