Mayor Ray Bourque and the Broussard City Council were notified on 4/27/2021 that Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou is taking voluntary leave. Chief Decou will remain on leave until the completion of a current investigation. His decision is based on the City legal counsel s advice on best practices: that he take leave to protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation.
While no comments can be made on the investigation or its findings until it is completed, Mayor Bourque and the Broussard City Council issued the following statement: ....

Broussard Police chief takes leave pending investigation by city

Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou is taking a voluntary leave of absence while the city conducts an investigation after it received an envelope of text messages.
Decou notified Mayor Ray Bourque and the city council Tuesday that he would take the voluntary leave until the completion of the investigation, the city s Director of Tourism and Communications Holly Cope-Lynn said in a statement.
His decision was based on advice on best practices from the city s attorneys, Cope-Lynn said. In a statement, Bourque said he agreed with the chief s decision in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
“Above all, it is our duty to protect the employees, the people, and the reputation of our great city and to allow due process, he said. We take seriously our responsibility and the trust placed in us by the people to lead, especially during challenging times.” ....

A former Broussard police officer is accusing the city s police chief, Brannon Decou, of sexual harassment. That former officer says those acts of harassment include shirtless Snapchats from the chief, messages requesting scandalous photos, and other messages laden with sexual innuendo.
Taylor Jones says he had been with the Broussard Police Department for 14 months when the alleged harassment began.
After he kept on, I told him straight up that I m not comfortable with it and it wasn t going to happen, Jones said. He ended up saying, that s alright, but keep it between us.
Jones says Decou began harassing him in November 2020. He says it started after Decou gave him a lead on a case he solved. ....
