City of Broussard begins search for interim police chief

The City of Broussard is beginning the search for an interim police chief following the announcement of Chief Brannon Decou s retirement.
That letter was also sent to Mayor Ray Bourque, the Broussard City Council and the Broussard Police Department.
According to the letter, Decou s last day as chief will be June 1, 2021.
The City of Broussard has formed a committee to assist in the search for an interim police chief.
The interim chief will serve until the next regular election in the fall of 2022.
The city says that the nine-member committee will be comprised of three council members, the mayor, and five community members who have law enforcement experience. The committee will also review resumes and make recommendations to the city council of up to three candidates for final review by the mayor and the entire city council.
Broussard Interim Police Chief Search Committee Formed
Nine people will be involved in the search for Broussard s next police chief.
Mayor Ray Bourque will head the committee the find an interim police chief who will serve through the end of the current term.
Joining Bourque on the committee are councilmen Kenny Higginbotham, Jess Regan, and Jeff Delahoussaye; Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber; St. Martin Parish Sheriff s Lt. Ross Stevens; retired federal marshal Ed Comeaux; retired Lafayette City Marshal s Office chief deputy Phil Conrad; and retired Louisiana State Police Sgt. John Trahan.
That committee will assist the full city council in hiring Decou s successor by reviewing résumés and making up to three recommendations to the full city council. The mayor and the council will review those candidates before the council makes the final decision on who to hire as interim chief.
