Broussard police chief violated harassment policy, investigation finds

Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou, who has since offered his resignation, violated the city s harassment policy, an investigation found.
The investigation was launched in March after the city received an envelope of text messages from former police officer Taylor Jones, who alleged the chief sexually harassed him.
Mayor Ray Bourque launched an investigation that was led by the law firm Breazeale, Sachse and Wilson.
The summary of the investigation is that some of the chief s activities were in violation of the city s harassment policy, improper, and not appropriate for a leader of the police department, the firm s summary letter stated. Additionally, certain complaints concerning harassment were not pursued to conclusion by police department leadership. ....

BROUSSARD, La. â Broussard Police Chief Branon Decou sent a retirement letter to Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin on Monday following an investigation after a former employee made allegations of sexual harassment.
The letter was also sent to Mayor Ray Bourque, the Broussard City Council and the Broussard Police Department.
According to the letter, Decou s last day as chief will be June 1, 2021.
After much consideration, I have decided that it is in the best interest of the community and my family that I retire from my position as Chief of Police, Decou writes. I will take some much needed rest, and allow someone else to take over with a fresh set of ideas that hopefully will continue the forward momentum that our city deserves. ....

Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou has offered his resignation after an investigation was launched by the city when it received an envelope of text messages.
Because the Broussard Police Chief is an elected position, Decou sent his resignation letter Monday to Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin and Mayor Ray Bourque. Decou had been on voluntary leave since April 28.
After much consideration, I have decided it is in the best interest of the community and my family that I retire from my position as chief of police, Decou said in his letter.
