AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo restaurants say they are facing an extreme shortage of employees, speculating a combination of unemployment, stimulus checks and fear of COVID-19 are the cause.
The Panhandle Restaurants Association says they are getting numerous calls from local businesses saying they cannot staff their restaurants.
âItâs the worst that I can remember seeing it,â said Kevin Hawkins, former president and current board member of the Texas Restaurant Associationâs Panhandle chapter. âTheyâre putting hire signs out and theyâre getting online and trying to hire and we just cant find the help to take care of the customers.â
âHow have you never been to Blue Plate?â When I first moved to Salt Lake City as a freshman at Westminster College, Blue Plate Diner was the restaurant that my peers shamed me the most for having never tried. This comes after the diner s owners decided to sell the building to developers who are looking to build apartments and storefronts, according to Blue Plate s general manager Joe Mandel.
