Farmers who have been protesting for months against deregulation of produce markets plan to block a major expressway outside New Delhi on Saturday, the 100th day of their campaign, they said. Tens of thousands have been camped outside Delhi since December, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeal three farm laws that open up the country’s agriculture markets to private companies, which the farmers say will make them vulnerable. NOIDA: The Noida Authority will extend its urban area by building six new sectors off the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and has expedited work on acquiring land from villagers. Officials said though land needed to be acquired from six villages in total, the major chunk would come from Gulawali, Mohiyapur and Nalgarha. These villages would make way for sectors 160-166. While sectors 162, 164 and165 would be dedicated for setting up industrial units, sector 161 has been earmarked for institutional purpose. Sectors 163 and 166 could see mixed-use development, with both commercial and residential buildings being allowed there. Lucknow: To meet the deadline of March for completion of Purvanchal Expressway, the Uttar Pradesh Expressway and Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on Wednesday issued directive for expediting the mud work and construction of railway overbridges on the route. After presiding over a review meeting, UPEIDA CEO Awanish Awasthi said that while 75% of the physical work on the expressway has been completed and the developers have been asked to complete the remaining mud works which is 97% complete. Awasthi said that 92% of the structural works have also been completed. “Instructions have been issued to finish the construction of flyovers, long bridges, small bridges, interchanges and toll plazas,” he said. Awasthi said that the work of completion of 3.2km-long airstrip on the Purvanchal expressway for emergency landing of fighter aircraft is also nearing completion. ....

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be India’s flagship expressway with a 120kmph speed limit. It will cut the distance between Mumbai and Delhi by over 220km. Gadkari announced that road works worth around Rs 7,000 crore had been approved for the state. “The annual plan for national highway works in Maharashtra was approved for Rs 2,727 crore. I got it enhanced to Rs 5,801 crore, which will improve and develop 1,035 km of national highways in the state,” the Union minister said. ....
