North Platte (35-20) advances to play Omaha Skutt (30-16) for the second time in the tournament on Tuesday at 4 p.m. “It was just a great performance, top to bottom, by our guys,” Seniors Head Coach Ricky Holm said. “They never gave up. We only had two hits, but we made them play catch and we took advantage of their errors. We finally chased that pitcher in the bottom of the seventh and Carsen (Johnson) came up with the clutch hit to win the game. I’m so proud of him and the team.” ....
Hastings edges North Platte Seniors to win district title by: James Parrish - Jul. 20, 2021 Sports Hastings scored a run in the top of the eighth inning and held on in the bottom half to defeat the North Platte FNBO Seniors, 3-2, in the championship game of the Area 7 tournament at Memorial Field in Kearney Both teams advance to the state tournament, which will begin on Saturday. North Platte (33-19) will play in the National division in Lincoln, while Hastings will play in the American division. The district final was a pitcher’s dual between Creighton Jacobitz of Hastings and North Platte’s Tate Janas. Neither team scored in the first four innings. In the top of the fifth inning, Hastings went up when Tyson LeBar hit a two-run single into right field. ....

The win moves North Platte (33-18) into the district championship, where they will play Hastings on Tuesday. With the top 2 finish in districts, the Nationals also qualify for the state tournament next week. Kearney (20-15) struck first when Nolan Smith hit a two-run double to left field off Cole Wright in the first inning.
