The North Platte FNBO Seniors baseball team scored two runs in the seventh Monday to come from behind and beat Lincoln North Star, 5-4, at the Nebraska State Legion Baseball Tournament at Den Hartog Field in Lincoln.
North Platte (35-20) advances to play Omaha Skutt (30-16) for the second time in the tournament on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
“It was just a great performance, top to bottom, by our guys,” Seniors Head Coach Ricky Holm said. “They never gave up. We only had two hits, but we made them play catch and we took advantage of their errors. We finally chased that pitcher in the bottom of the seventh and Carsen (Johnson) came up with the clutch hit to win the game. I’m so proud of him and the team.”

Seniors outduel Kearney to qualify for state tournament

The North Platte FNBO Seniors scored two runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead of Kearney on Monday and they held on in the seventh to get a 10-8 victory at the Area 7 tournament in Kearney.
The win moves North Platte (33-18) into the district championship, where they will play Hastings on Tuesday. With the top 2 finish in districts, the Nationals also qualify for the state tournament next week.
Kearney (20-15) struck first when Nolan Smith hit a two-run double to left field off Cole Wright in the first inning. Wright was pulled from the mound shortly thereafter in favor of Jaylan Ruffin.

The North Platte FNBO Seniors scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead of Twin Cities and win 5-3 on Sunday in the Area 7 tournament in Kearney.
Next, North Platte (32-18) will play in their third straight elimination game of the tournament when they take on Kearney (20-14) on Monday at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the state tournament as one of the top two teams in the district.
Against Twin Cities (20-26), North Platte went ahead when Carsen Johnson scored on a wild pitch by Hunter McCollum in the first inning.
