Upcoming Swampscott public meetings The following Swampscott public meetings below have been posted on the town’s website.    As the town practices social distancing, some will stream on the municipal website as well as broadcast on Swampscott Government Access Channels: Comcast Channel 22 and Verizon Channel 41   Almost all will be convened over the digital platform Zoom, to which residents and community members may need a unique identification number to gain access. That number can be found on the public meetings’ agendas. To read meeting agendas, visit: http://www.swampscottma.gov/calendar. The Swampscott Reporter urges residents and community members to frequently check the town’s calendar for public-meeting updates.

If they have not already cast ballots, Swampscott voters get to weigh in on candidates running in the Tuesday, April 27 on Election Day. Election Day will arrive after Swampscott Town Clerk Susan Duplin offered a solid week of in-person voting inside Swampscott Town Hall, 22 Monument Ave. – which wraps up on Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Absentee ballots must be dropped off at the town hall before 8 p.m. on Election Day. Early-voting ad absentee ballots can be turned in either to Duplin’s town-hall office or dropped in a secure 24-hour ballot box, checked and emptied frequently throughout the day, outside town hall’s main entrance.

Four contests emerged among elective-officer positions up for grabs in Swampscott s 2021 municipal election, said Town Clerk Susan Duplin after she certified candidates nomination papers.  Barring candidates withdrawing their names, voters will see a mixture of political newcomers and incumbents who will be contested and uncontested on the Tuesday, April 27 municipal election ballot. Atlantic Avenue resident Charlie Patsios and incumbent Michael McClung will compete for a yearlong term as Swampscott town moderator. Incumbent Peter Spellios faces a challenge from Elmwood Road resident Mary Webster for a three-year term on the Swampscott Board of Selectmen.

INA’S INSIGHTS: Swampscott’s outstanding residents: Angela Warren Ippolito Ina Michele Resnikoff A decade ago, Angela Warren Ippolito built an extension on her Swampscott home with her husband, Joe, to bring her now 90-year-old mother to live with them. Like everything else that Ippolito has done, this decision has added to her joy in life.   Ippolito is an unusually positive person, able to see the many sides of things; this has enabled her to be successful in the worlds of fine arts and marketing as well as an unstinting Swampscott volunteer for 20 years.  Currently, Ippolito is in her third five-year term on the Swampscott Planning Board, which she also leads as the five-member board’s chairperson. She appreciates the diversity and diligence of her colleagues.
