Regulations governing balloons in Swampscott? They may be in the town’s future.   Discussions about balloons among town officials are afoot: A bulleted item “restricting balloons discussions” appeared on the Swampscott Board of Health’s agenda for a July 7 public meeting that ultimately got canceled.    Meanwhile, the Swampscott Conservation Commission has posted an agenda that lists “discussion of use of balloons on town conservation land” for its public meeting on Thursday, July 22.  “The Conservation Commission will be taking up possibly sending a letter to pertinent departments in the schools and in the town about not using balloons on conservation land,” said Toni Bandrowicz, vice chair of the commission and president of the Swampscott Conservancy.

In Swampscott, Spellios wins selectman seat on 56-vote margin; McClung retains Town Meeting gavel Find the 2021 Swampscott municipal election s  unofficial election results embedded at the bottom of this story. Local voters re-elected Peter Spellios to the Swampscott Board of Selectmen on a 56-vote margin in the 2021 municipal election on Tuesday, according to the unofficial votes Swampscott Town Clerk Sue Duplin posted around 10:15 p.m.  Spellios earned 1,142 votes to challenger Mary Webster s 1,086.   His victory Tuesday is his third consecutive three-year term.  Across the town’s six precincts, Swampscott voters collectively cast 2,270 ballots - or 19.1 percent of the total 11,874 registered voters who were eligible to vote in Tuesday’s election. Turnout was roughly 2.1 points below the 17% that came out for the 2020 town election.
