TALLAHASSEE – The 19th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team travels to play its last two regular season matches this week when it plays No. 16 North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tennis Club at 4:00 p.m. Friday. The Seminoles play No. 13 Duke at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Seminoles, who are 17-5 on the season and 8-2 in conference play, enter the final weekend third in the ACC standings. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 4 singles player in the nation. Cornut-Chauvinc enters this week’s match with a 14-3 record with nine of those wins coming against ranked opponents. Joshua Dous-Karpenschif is one of five Seminoles with at least 10 wins this spring, posting a 13-2 record on the season, including a 7-0 record at No. 4 and a 3-0 record at No. 5. TALLAHASSEE – The No. 18 Florida State men’s tennis team defeated No. 44 Miami 4-3 on Wednesday evening at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. “Tonight, we really had to dig deep, Miami came out and played really well and won the doubles point, and continued the momentum in singles and won a got bunch of quick first sets,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “We had to fight back, which shows our capacity as a team to never be out. The crowd is a big advantage for us, and they stayed the full time. It was great having them cheering us on, and at times when we needed to get picked up, they helped pick us up.” Miami jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after it won the doubles point. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 2 singles player in the nation, the highest ranking of any FSU men’s tennis player in school history. Cornut-Chauvinc enters this weekend’s matches with an 8-0 record with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents.
Cornut-Chauvinc has won three weekly honors after winning ACC’s co-Player of the Week on January 31, and earning Player of the Week and Doubles Pair of the Week on January 17.
Sophomores Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif earned Florida State its fourth weekly award this season after earning ACC Doubles Pair of the Week on February 28. The pair’s 6-3 victory over UCF’s No. 48-ranked Bogdan Pavel and Lleyton Cronje clinched the doubles point for the Seminoles on court No. 1.
