Women Finish Fifth, Men Eighth, In Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In the fourth meet of the 2023 season, the Clemson Men’s and Women’s cross country teams impressed as both groups finished within the top 10 of their individual events at the Crimson Classic. In the women’s 6k, the Tigers finished fifth overall and on the men’s side, the Tigers placed eighth overall in the 8k.   “The men really showed up today with a lot of season and personal bests. They look great heading into championship season. We had a few mishaps on the women’s side, but we also had a bunch of solid performances,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said.  For the women, freshman Gladys Chepngetich was the first Tiger to cross the line as she earned a third-place finish. Chepngetich completed the 6k in 19 minutes and 18 seconds which marked a new personal record for the freshman in the event. Chepngetich Named ACC Co-Female Freshman of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – For the second time this season, Gladys Chepngetich earns a weekly honor as she has been tabbed ACC Co–Female Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. The honor comes after Chepngetich recorded her second, first-place finish at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville this past weekend. In the Women’s 5k, Chepngetich finished the race in 16 minutes and 14 seconds as she had an average pace of five minutes and 22 seconds. Chepngetich Earns ACC Freshman of the Week Honors

CLEMSON, S.C. – After earning a first-place finish in the women’s 6K at the Furman Invitational, newcomer Gladys Chepngetich has been named the ACC Female Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference office announced on Tuesday.  Chepngetich completed the event in 20 minutes and 47 seconds as the freshman stayed with the leading group throughout all four laps. The freshman took the lead in the third lap and was able to use her speed to push herself past the other leaders and be the first person to cross the line.  The Clemson women finished third overall in the 6k with help from Chepngetich’s performance.  In the two meets she has competed in, Chepngetich has secured a first and second-place finish for the Tigers as the freshman has impressed all so far this season.   Up next, Chepngetich and the Tigers will compete in Live at the Lou on September 30th in Louisville.   For all the most up to date information regarding Clemson cross country, please ....

Chepngetich Earns First Place Finish at Furman Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – In her second event as a Clemson Tiger, newcomer Gladys Chepngetich finishes first in the Women’s 6K at the Furman Invitational. The Clemson women finished 3rd overall while the men finished 4th in the Men’s 6K.  “To see Clemson cross the line first is always a great thing to see. Walking away from this one, I see some things we need to work on as a group but overall, especially with the women’s performances, I think it was really good,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said.  Chepngetich stayed within the lead for most of the event as the freshman found herself leading the group in the third lap. In the fourth and final loop, Chepngetich used her speed to push herself past the other leaders and cross the finish line with an impressive time of 20 minutes and 47 seconds. Finishing in the top-25 on the women’s side was Caelin Sloan, another newcomer on the Tigers roster. Sloan crossed the line in 22 minutes and 14 seconds. Women Finish Second, Men Third, in Upstate Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2023 slate at the Upstate Eye Opener in Spartanburg on Friday afternoon with the women taking second 5k and the men finishing third 8k. Freshman Gladys Chepngetich placed second overall for the women while sophomore, Victor Ndiwa placed second overall on the men’s side. “I feel like this was by far our best season opener for both men’s and women’s teams. I’m looking forward to what the season has in store,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said. On the women’s side, the Tigers finished with a final score of 58, and final total of 1:29:11 to help them secure second place in the 5k. Chepngetich started her Clemson career with a finishing time of 17:11.20. Caelin Sloan, another new face on the Tigers roster, finished ninth overall with a final time of 17:31.90, and Madelyn Dinneen rounded out the Tigers in the top 20 with a time of 17:59.00 to finish 16th in the 5k.For the men, they finish ....
