Women Finish Fifth, Men Eighth, In Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In the fourth meet of the 2023 season, the Clemson Men’s and Women’s cross country teams impressed as both groups finished within the top 10 of their individual events at the Crimson Classic. In the women’s 6k, the Tigers finished fifth overall and on the men’s side, the Tigers placed eighth overall in the 8k.   “The men really showed up today with a lot of season and personal bests. They look great heading into championship season. We had a few mishaps on the women’s side, but we also had a bunch of solid performances,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said.  For the women, freshman Gladys Chepngetich was the first Tiger to cross the line as she earned a third-place finish. Chepngetich completed the 6k in 19 minutes and 18 seconds which marked a new personal record for the freshman in the event. Chepngetich Named ACC Co-Female Freshman of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – For the second time this season, Gladys Chepngetich earns a weekly honor as she has been tabbed ACC Co–Female Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. The honor comes after Chepngetich recorded her second, first-place finish at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville this past weekend. In the Women’s 5k, Chepngetich finished the race in 16 minutes and 14 seconds as she had an average pace of five minutes and 22 seconds. Chepngetich crossed the finish line 15 seconds before the second-place finisher completed the race. The event marked Chepngetich’s second, first-place finish as the newcomer won the Women’s 6k at the Furman Invitational earlier this season. Up next, Chepngetich and the Tigers will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Crimson Classic on October 13th. For all the most up to date information regarding Clemson cross country, please visit ClemsonTigers.com and follow @ClemsonTrackXC on Twitter and Instagram.
