distraught family members holding on to hopes for hours devastated by the outcome after sheriff deputies recovered the body of their loved one. i mean it s extremely tragic. you have this father who gave up his life for his own son. you know, there as bold as it was, it was a tragedy for the family. reporter: the sheriff s office said around 2:00 a family of four adults and eight children were heading out to the pond behind the parkway lake s rv park. i saw a variety of the adults and some kids and they were bringing their blankets. it looked like they were going to go swimming. they looked like they were going out to have a good time. reporter: a good time until one of the children went too far into the water. the father went after his child said to be four or five years old. he got him to safety, but then went under himself. it s real sad, yeah. it is real sad. you know, i am more sad than anybody. but i would never think it would be that dangerous out the ....

maria perez literally picking up all the glass pieces after not one, but three of her cars got broken into early friday morning. i live here around 13 years and nothing happens. and it is scary. i worry because i have my grandchild. reporter: she s not allowed. seven cars on her streets were broken into. it s really hard because even though i have insurance i still have to pay the deductible. reporter: surveillance video shows the crime happened at 4:20 in the morning. the car parks, two people run out. the driver remains on the lock lookout. the suspect jumps back into the car. the group also hits neighboring streets. in all 30 car break-ins in 30 minutes. it s real quick. in and out a little after 4:00, in between 4:00 a.m. and 4:28 they committed all theseburglaries. reporter: neighbors reported a suspicious white car in the area. police ran the plates. turned out it s tied to a stolen white lexus in brentwood where police were investigating 17 similar ....
university of california s enrollment policies have been unfairly favoring out-of-state students who pay higher tuition than california residents. ktvu s jana katsuyama is live at uc berkeley after getting reaction from the office of the uc president. reporter: ken, one of the spokespeople for that office of the president said they disagree with the auditor report. they say yes, out-of-state enrollment has increased from 5% up to 15% in recent years but they say the audit does not take into account some of the benefits that california residents received. the university of california system had about 252,000 students last year at its 10 campuses but the state auditor s report is criticizing who gets admitted and who doesn t. university of california made financial decisions and some admissions decisions that were disadvantageous to california residents. reporter: in a video, the state auditor said in the past five years, out-of-state enrollment increased by 18,000 ....
