is it all gone? when will it warm up? >> the active weather, the severe part has been moving out of town, but we're also talking about the sierra snow as well. a lot to talk about for today and tonight and some of the heavier amounts in portions of the north bay and portions of the east bay as well with the factor underneath that thunderstorm where they have the heavier downpours out there. this is a lightning strike from petaluma earlier this afternoon showing you the instability in the atmosphere with a tweet coming out. from the satellite the radar and the coverage right now. we will be coming in closer. this is an interest earlier this afternoon. the lightning strikes are moving across the north bay hanging out towards portions of the east bay as well. right now we have clear to partly cloudy skies across most areas coming closer right now with a few of the storm reports. the dots showing you the hail report out here, but you will see this out towards yuba city and they reported a funnel cloud at 3:25 this afternoon. so widespread reports of hilltop in the north bay and the lightning strikes as well. but even some of the know would drift to the south closer towards the east bay especially towards contra costa county and the evening hours. temperatures are in the 50s as you heard about a big change. of course we're talking about the thunderstorms and the sierra snow today. we're talking about the 90s. we'll break it all down coming up. new at 11:00 tonight san leandro police looking for the occupancy of a car ending up on the water on its roof in the san leandro marina. it happened right behind this restaurant. two people had jumped in to rescue the occupants. the people of the submerged car hopped into other vehicles and left the area. vehicles appeared to be speeding and the occupants may have been intoxicated. police are still trying to identify them. they would also like to know if those people are indeed okay. the driver of napa county died today after losing control for some reason going down an embankment. but the man in his 60s heading northbound on highway 121 drove off the highway. it happened at 12:30 this afternoon. they tried to revive the driver at the scene, but they were not successful. no other vehicles were involved. >> and for an unknown reason he crossed into the outbound lanes of route 121 off the shoulder into the trees, down the embankment. the highway was closed in that area for an investigation until 3:45 this afternoon. no word yet on the man's name or why he lost control of his car. officers say they have been talking to witnesses who tried to piece together exactly what happened today. and police are investigating a body discovered yesterday in the water. the 32-acre space is located at komen avenue in south san jose. the fire engine was dispatched to the area just before 9:30 after receiving reports of someone down in the water and the case has been turned over to police. san leandro police investigating the shooting as a hate crime. police were responding to reports of gunfire at church around 2:00 yesterday afternoon. when they arrived they found the damaged statue and the 32- year-old suspect nearby. police say he resisted arrest and ended up in a wrestling match with five officers. they say he was in possession of a handgun as we don't know if that suspect is affiliated with the church. there is some evidence that suggests this isn't a crime. there is no inflammatory words left on the premises or derogatory words left on the premises. >> the man fired eight rounds into that statue and one of the bullets actually ricocheted off the flag pole and hit the school that no one was hurt. but police are not releasing the suspect's name until charges are filed. new at 11:00 tonight, hundreds of people marched against hate and bigotry today in the south bay. san jose was the only bay area city to participate in the nationwide march for equality taking place two weeks before their celebrations as people from all different backgrounds and all the colors of the rainbow. it's not just for those identifying with the community, but anyone who participates say they need a voice or a friend. >> and we need our kids and their kids to know they have a future. >> yes. >> and it will not be long. >> but to see my mother become emotional when trump was elected. a lot of people felt that way, right? because they felt like everything they worked for was for n right? and then now we're trying to show you it's not for nothing we're still doing the work we know you guys did and we're not going to let it go. >> many people who attended today's march says it is a great way to kick off the pride celebrations for a month. the pride begins the weekend of june 24. all eyes on capitol hill on tuesday when the attorney general jeff sessions is expected to answer questions. in the meantime the powerful democrat is now calling on the president to take the highly unusual steps of testifying under oath about his interactions. the former fbi director james comey. garrett tenney is in washington with the big week ahead. >> reporter: attorney general jeff sessions is set to begin his testimony on tuesday. expected to face tough questions with his contact during the presidential campaign and his involvement in the firing of the fbi director james comey. >> he had recused himself and then suddenly he's the one recommending to the president that comey be fired and it is the real question of the priority of the attorney general participating in that in any way, shape, or form. >> i want to know if it is true what comey said. that you cannot fairly render judgment. >> reporter: senate minority leader chuck schumer isn't satisfied with sessions though and now challenging president trump to testify under oath to congress as well. in addition to releasing any tapes of his conversations with comey. >> if there are tapes he eluded to the fact there are tapes maybe as a threat or a taunting towards comey. he should make them public right away. if there aren't tapes he should let that be known. no more game playing. >> reporter: the head of the republican national committee though says there's no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign and the russians. she's calling for an end to those congressional investigations. >> time to put an end to this. let's let the special investigations take their course. let's not keep finding ways to open new investigations. >> reporter: what we don't know about attorney general's testimony though is whether or not we'll all be able to see and hear it for ourselves. the senate intelligence committee is still working out whether or not the hearing will be public or behind closed doors. in washington i'm garrett tenney fox news. president trump may postpone or even cancel a trip to britain following the backlash towards the comments he made under the terror attack there in london. but a day after the attack that killed eight people the president criticized london's mayor sadiq khan on twitter. mr. trump said the mayor had down played the danger towards citizens in the wake of the assault, misquoting the mayor in the process. khan has called to cancel president trump's visit saying he was, "wrong" about many things. white house officials have not definitively ruled out going. in the meantime british prime minister theresa may seems to be following shaky grounds. today mrs. may met with party leaders in an effort to reshuffle her cabinet. the conservative party is seeking support from northern ireland's democratic unionist party to try to stay in power. may's days as prime minister are numbered as angry members of parliament talk about possible replacement. new at 11:00 tonight police are releasing new details about the deadly terrorist attacks happening just over a week ago. new photos are showing us a look at explosive belts worn by attackers. this as a community has come together in an attempt to put the pain behind them. >> reporter: thousands taking to the streets in london in a rally to show unity in a recent wake of terrorist attacks. residents are coming together of the horror inflicted by three attackers a little more than a week ago. >> they came to us. two of my guys would run out to try to defend these girls being attacked. >> reporter: eight people were killed and dozens hurt after a man drove a van into pedestrians on london bridge and then went into a stabbing spree packed with cars and restaurants. first responders describing the panic and confusion at scene and how he guided people to safety inside a pub basement. >> a stream of people came out of the market running and screaming. he literally pushed them into the basement. it seemed like the safest place to put a large volume of people at that time. >> reporter: police releasing new photos showing the fake explosive belts worn by the three attackers as well as bombs they left in their van. but life is slowly returning to normal in the capital. a cathedral damaged in the attack opened up. >> cleaning, painting, people getting their stuff together and their businesses back together. so we are now moving as fast as we can to get back to our normal days. >> reporter: police have lifted a change to allow residents to return to their homes. it was an attack that killed three u.s. army rangers in afghanistan. up next the new details into this investigation. how the attack is complimenting the u.s. joint mission in that region. and it is a part of a competition that gave the iconic race its name. why event staff of san francisco were forced to cancel perhaps the most important leg of the triathlon coming up. voters in puerto rico went to the polls today and overwhelmingly approved state hood for the island. the non-binding referendum is the fifth time they have voted on the issue. there were three different options on the ballot. state hood, independence, or keeping the status quo. 97% voted for state hood approving a 51st state though would have to be approved by congress and most analysts say it's a long shot. we're learning more tonight about an attack in afghanistan yesterday that left three army rangers dead. as connor powell reports it's the latest of a series of attacks carried out by an insider within the coalition forces. >> reporter: inside our task it continues to plague the u.s. and afghanistan we green-on- blue attacks where afghan soldiers attack their international training partners since 2008. the latest team where u.s. troops were fighting alongside afghan soldiers in nangarhar province battling isis. it's the same area where the u.s. dropped their largest non- nuclear bomb on a series of isis tunnels. however the taliban claimed credit for this week's ac that killed three u.s. special forces soldiers. so it isn't clear if the attacker was connected to the taliban or just a disgruntled afghan soldier, which has often been the case. it comes as the trump administration is contemplating sending an additional 5,000 american troops to afghanistan to help with the worsening security situation. these insider attacks undermine their training mission in afghanistan and they hurt joint operations. the afghan military will continue to meet a lot of additional training. but insider attacks made that training all the more difficult. and without extensive training afghan soldiers aren't prepared enough to actually carry out the mission with or without their u.s. partners. and with the taliban gaining ground across the country now more than ever afghanistan needs additional u.s. military training assistance. but with more troops on the ground also comes the potential for more u.s. mass casualties. injuries from connor powell fox news. the fda wants a prescription painkiller off the market. the agency says the opioid painkiller should be halted off in the u.s. the powerful medications risk for abuse outweighs its benefits. the fda is increasing the pharmaceutical company to volunteerly recall the drug. it's the first time they have moved to take the opioid pain medication off the market due to abuse. the number of opioid overdose deaths have quadrupled in the past 15 years. they are reviewing the request in a way of evaluating their options. women with type ii diabetes who take a low dose aspirin may reduce the risk for breast cancer. researchers studied 150 women with type ii diabetes over a 14- year period and found women who took low dose aspirin had nearly a 20% reduction of developing breast cancer. the team notes many of these women were taking aspirin therapy to prevent cardiovascular disease, but might be protecting a new device as well. san francisco today and mother nature forced a change and plan for the thousands of athletes taking part in this year's escape from alcatraz. allie rasmus explains why officials had to cancel the swim portion of that event. >> reporter: disappointed faces and dry wet suits on marina green this morning after athletes learned they would not be swimming in the bay as planned. >> this administration is all about the swim. >> reporter: just escape from -- from alcatraz. there are some people from sweden who are taking it pretty well. >> reporter: windy conditions and choppy waters out on the bay was too dangerous. organizers made the call to cancel that swim 6:30 this morning. >> we had a meeting with every official, the san francisco marine division, police department, division and track officials. it was a small craft advisory where we couldn't put the support there on the water to support the swimmers. >> it's windy and breezy that lasted throughout the morning. it this is the first time in recent history. anybody shoveled should recall the swim portion of the triathlon being canceled. >> it's a bucket list race as people come from all over the world to do the race. two do athletes registered. >> i came here 100% for the swim, but of course i also think it is important for the safety of the people. >> reporter: you will come back next year? >> absolutely. >> reporter: some athletes have waited years in the lottery to compete for this event. race organizers say there will be no refund, but racers will be guaranteed a spot in next year's triathlon. with that the event carried on with the 18-mile bike ride, and an eight-mile run going ahead as planned. >> i needed to adjust my focus and got ready to race the race ahead of me today. there is still pride on the line. >> reporter: and still a chance to prove talent and ability even without escaping alcatraz. in san francisco allie rasmus ktvu fox 2 news. >> yeah everybody is still talking about how windy it was today, mark. >> on a normal day typically we have calm winds in the morning and then the winds pick up in the afternoon hours. but with this system producing all the active weather today kept the winds going all day long starting first thing in this morning causing all kinds of problems today. this wasn't a snow producer up in the sierra. take a look at this. this caltrans camera on june 11. we were talking about a winter weather advisory in place for the mountains. it's just amazing. that was the case today. we are seeing those reports, but still they have that advisory until 5:00 a.m. monday. heard about the strong winds and they were definitely up across the entire bay area. mt. diablo gusting up to 52 miles an hour. over 40 miles an hour for fairfield and the ultimate pass at sfo with winds gusting up near 30 miles an hour for one spot as well. on the satellite radar you can see all the action move into the bay area. look at this. the thunderstorms will be moving across the region and earlier this afternoon and to the evening hours, even approaching portions of the east bay. up into the sierra the snowfall has been dissipating as well with that advisory in place for a few be more hours until 5:00 a.m. monday. encountering a few flurries for your afternoon evening hours. right now lots of 50s across the bay-o-vista area. fremont 56. wind speeds will check out these panels, which they have backed off compared earlier today. fairfield 7 miles an hour. calm wind towards their oakland airport. sfo westerly at 12 and half moon bay gusting up at 18 miles an hour. a live camera looking towards san francisco and the bay bridge and the bay bridge lights. i suspect some patchy cloud cover reform towards the coast. near the bay the first thing tomorrow morning temperatures will start out their day in the 40s and the 50s. then for your afternoon hours fair skies, gusty winds and probably not like today. maybe around 15 to 25 miles an hour. still a bit breezy for your monday afternoon. this weather system will cool us off and produce all the showers and the thunderstorms and the snowfall up in the sierra. that kicks out of town and the gradual warming trend thatlogical kicks in later on -- warming trend that really kicks off for the week. beaches are not warming up nearly as much. we'll have those microclimates setting up later on in the week. the outside chance for a sprinkle or light shower and then to the afternoon hours partly cloudy ask and breezy for your monday afternoon. temperatures tomorrow not a big change for today. 60s to the lower 70s. but everybody will warm up beginning on wednesday, thursday, and friday especially inland. the warmest locations in the upper 90s closing in on 100 degrees. at least we have options here in the
