Adair County Associate Circuit Judge Kristie J. Swaim speaks to Rotary Club of Kirksville

The speaker at the Feb. 28 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Adair County Associate Circuit Judge Kristie J. Swaim (right). Swaim has held this position since 2003. As part of a civic education program sponsored by the Supreme Court of Missouri, Swaim spoke about an interesting 2002 case heard by that court. At the Feb. 21 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, Community Action Partnership of Northeast Missouri Client Advocate Andrea Thurman spoke about the services available for low income and homeless individuals in the five counties they service: Adair, Clark, Knox, Schuyler and Scotland. The services involve providing electricity, food, clothing and temporary housing. CAPNEMO, which also sponsors Head Start, is funded by grants and fundraising. The speaker is pictured with Rotarian Dale Schenewerk who introduced her.

Rotary Club of Kirksville donates to Forest Lake Area Trail System

At the Feb. 21 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, a $5,000 check from a matching grant was presented to the Forest Lake Area Trail System (FLATS) Chair Dan Martin for trailhead electricity, which is being installed this week. FLATS in turn received a $5,000 matching grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation which covered the entire $10,000 installation cost. The grants will provide electricity to the pavilion, a restroom, and two telephone poles which were donated by Ameren. Later this spring, concrete sidewalks, a pavilion pad and parking lot will be poured. The FLATS Trailhead will soon become a Kirksville city park. Rotary Club of Kirksville hosts local firefighters | Kirksville Daily Express

At the Feb. 7 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, Deputy Fire Chief Travis Gregory and Battalion Chief Michael Robinson spoke about the emergency services and community education the Kirksville Fire Department provides, which are in addition to its fire fighting responsibilities. Gregory said they answered 3,047 calls last year, up from just under 1,900 calls in 2019 when he first joined the Kirksville Fire Department. The speaker at the Jan. 31 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Darrell Crooks (left) of the Adair County Ambulance District. He has served 24 years as paramedic program director with a total of 44 years in the general field. Rotarian Jennifer Chrisman (pictured right) in her introduction said that Crooks is also the pastor of the Novinger Baptist Church.
