The speaker at the May 24 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Tacy Ensign, Kirksville High School Valedictorian. Ensign, the daughter of TSU faculty member Julene Ensign, said she moved to Kirksville from Chicago in the summer before freshman year. She spoke about the adjustments she made moving to a small city and also her experiences during the Covid pandemic. A Pershing Scholarship recipient, Ensign plans to attend Truman State University majoring in Business Administration/Management on a pre-law tract. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and was a two-sport athlete softball and soccer. Ensign is pictured with Rotarian Mike Mitchell who introduced her.
Kirksville High School Senior Cristian Mendez, recipient of a $750 Rotary Club of Kirksville scholarship, spoke about his plans for the future. Mendez will attend the University of Southern California in a Biochemistry/Pre-Dental program. He is pictured with his mother, Katie Mendez, as well as his former middle school principal, Rotarian Mike Mitchell, who introduced him.
At the May 17 meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirksville, Marty Jayne received a Paul Harris Fellowship pin from club President Marie Murphree for his significant financial contributions to the Rotary International Foundation. Jayne is a five-time recipient. Rotary uses the money to improve living conditions and health around the world and for various grants, exchanges and scholarships designed to promote peace and better world understanding between cultures.
The speaker at the May 17 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Red Cross Disaster Program Specialist John Dungan. Dungan spoke about recovery efforts after an EF-3 tornado struck Wynne, Ark. last month. The tornado was described as more than 13 football fields wide and resulted in 26 injuries and four deaths, as well as extensive property damage. Dungan is pictured with club President Marie Murphree.
